Well been a while now since I actually said anything. I have been sitting here waiting on MY little slice of the Hex2 download to finish. I dont remember how many attempts this is now. It's stopped about 3 times so far during this one and has luckily started again but I fear of its possible corruption on completion.:( At any rate it got me thinking. Currently I am 24 and was wondering how many years it will be before I am able to accomplish any decent work in TS. Work that I can look at myself and enjoy knowing I did that. It made me want to ask how old some of the other members of the community are and how many years they have devoted to the art of the binary paint and eisel. Just curious. No need to answer if your shy;)

On a slightly related note regarding the future works in which I refer to wanting to accomplish. Has anyone heard of a little game called "World of Warcraft"? I was wondering if it is possible at the moment to import some of the meshes from said game into TS7. I was wanting a reference model you see. I intend to make a little fan made "spoof" or parody of a few commonly known "issues" that are in the game via short film. It would make it easier if I could get them into TS7 as a guide and reference for the characters I wish to make myself. Well just wondering. Hope my Download finishes within that estimated 7 hours I would like to try it out. From what the rest of you said it seems to be rather usefull for texturing. Thank you for your paitience.

heheh, Not shy neever I am 47, semi-retired at 40 from a career spanning pre-home computer revolution to the present date.

I was more of a Code-Monkey in the early days, followed by a postion as a Computer Science Lecturer (after a spell in the Royal Navy). Took up GFX with a Koala pad on a C64 and have steadily worked up from that :)

Now I use a variety of tools to perform my digital miracles, that I create for a select client base and the local community.

Made enough to retire, just work when I want to now :)

But it has to be said I nearly busted a gut and few more bits of me in the process, getting blown up didnae help neever ;)

Everquest Person here

Cheers

I am 25 and have been using trueSpace for around 8 years or so. I do mostly animation stuff with it.

Has anyone heard of a little game called "World of Warcraft"?

I have heard about it....sure seems popular.

I'm a fan of text advantures (aka "interactive fiction") like Zork. One cool thing about it is the player creates the mental imagery that never looks outdated, no matter how much video cards advance. ;) I wrote a text game or two back in my QBasic & DOS days.

Yep, heard of World of Warcraft, I'm a games junkie so generally read up on most everything out there.

I've not heard of the models being loadable into any format (though in this instance I havent looked - I say that based on the WoW fanfics so far using screengrab utilities such as FRAPS to record in game events as their means of making the movies).

There is no way I am aware of at the moment of getting those into tS - no way to open them outside the game, that I've seen, though I could be wrong... hmm I think I must be wrong when I think about it, because I did hear of one add on for the game that changed the meshes, so I guess someone has opened them and edited them. May just have been texture maps that were edited, not sure. Although I keep in touch with games news, I can't get into all those little details for each one :)

Keep me updated if you find out more!

On the age thing, I'm 40 (or soon enough) and not in the least bit shy, and been using tS for err not sure, probably 8 or 9 years or so... though in the last years, haven't used it so much for art now that I work here, less time to do that than I used to have :)

HTH!

Well my waist size is 36 and my age is 52 or is it the other way around?

I'm like Frank...I'm facing North and there is a mail box.....in the distance there's a unicorn..... L.... there is lint in your pocket.....bulldozer.....

I've been a professional Cartoonist, Mechanical Engineer, Teacher, QA Analyst, and using TS as far as I can remember. I have taught computer class, graphic arts, commercial art, fine art, and my favorite and the lowest paying job of all

(and also my favorite) Cartooning!

I'm envious of Garion, a clone of Splinters, love the minimalist ideas of Frank, the freshness of Wizard, the electronic wizardry of Alien, the technical savy of Stan, a technicaly perfect Mad Mouse, and the humor of the not so wicked Witch.

I'm not shy and not smart enough to be.

Well thaks guys. Was wondering how long everyone had been around.

To:Garion

So someone else has served their countries military here in the community? Hmm wonder how many old military people we have here too now. That may be to politically involved though so I won't ask. Neat though. :) I'm not the only one now that I know of. "God save the Queen." :p (Did I say it right? I"m a yank so I hope I don't offend.):D

To:TomG

Yes I've heard of that mod for WOW that lets you change skins. As I understand it all the models and texture data is stored locally on your machine along with your macros,UI settings, system settings, ect. However all world data, item data, time, ect. Is stored on the servers so that players can't access and manipulate it as easily and to allow for the "persistent online experience". Meaning everyone else can keep going while you may have left the game. I have not taken the time like you said yourself to really dig into it yet though. Still need to learn how to turn a sphere primitive into, well,... anything other than sphere:p *sigh* I have the understanding but I have never used TS before or any program of its ilk:( . General knowledge only gets you so far. When I am out of the military in a few months for good I hope to be one of the people actually posting in the WIP boards.:)

Thanks guys nice to get a better view of the people that make up the community. OH and now that I was reminded I guess I could have read some of this in the profiles:p whooops. Thanks anyway.

Heheh, not offended by 'God Save the Queen' I am a Scot and a patriotic one :)

As for being envious of me, don't be. I was supposed to retire at 50 but being 'blown up' (which BTW was not mentioned in the recruitment posters):p forced me to retire 10 years earlier:( . But it has to be said that I am loving 'almost' every minute of it, but at times I get a hankering for the Rat race :o

This however is quashed when I here the neighbours grumbling outside at 7am about going to work, just as I am going to bed :)

Cheers

the freshness of Wizard, the electronic wizardry of Alien,

Chuckle! Shouldn't that be "the alienness of Wizard, the wizardry of Alien"? Actually freshness is something I'm presently very short of - our Hot Water system has died - the plumber is currently replacing the water heating cylinder as I type but we've had no hot water for 3 days - icky!

As for overall freshness, well I turn 50 next January. I've been doing 3d art for ... not that long actually. According to my gallery postings at Renderosity (http://www.renderosity.com/gallery.ez?Start=1&Artist=WZRD&ByArtist=Yes)I posted my first 3d image (http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=385884)on April 23 2003 so that's just over three years ago and my first tS (3.2) image (http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=442677)on July 10 2003.

September 2004 or thereabouts I got tS5.2 and I won tS6.6 in the November 2005 monthly Calligari comp. I got into computers for the purpose of making music starting around June 2001 and sort of stumbled onto 3d via free programes like Terragen and Anim8or. My background as a muso and a keen amateur photographer and painter certainly helped plus the tS communities have been extremely relevant to my progress.

Freaky - good thread dude!
