Think logically: AW isn't for corporations but for end-user consumers.

While I work I am not a corporation, I'm still me. I am
just one of the people who sometimes can do some of his
work from home.

And what do you thing that I am after I finished work?
Or before work starts (like now, monday 5:30am) ?
I now sit at my work PC at home that has all developement
stuff on it and is quite reliable for a M$ system before
I will go to my customer and work on NT4 (again), AIX and
Linux, sit behind a firewall and have no web access at all.

So noooo playing at work, but combining hobby and work.
Hard to understand if your hobby is called "rant"?

Uh hum.... Since when/shouldn't AW be for corporations? I sure hope it is!
There used to be and I *think* still are several corporations using it. I
was involved in developing a world for a very large corporation once. What
about Universities and other schools that use networks? Sure, some have
their own Uniservers but the $$ for them go into the virtual pot of
development.

Lets see here, software rendering support = more corporations & individual
people involved and able to use it = more $$ for AW = more employess (
hopefully programmers) = faster/better development overall. Yes, that
includes corporations that make games too! Sure would be nice to have that
ActiveX control type browser developed with all the new "3D" web page
environments. 3D is in quotes because they don't fit what I feel is 3D
internet. Call me spoiled.. lol

*Envisions going to work virtually someday and having meetings and such in

I already know of at least three companies already doing this:)) Gotta be
cheaper than flying people around the world to meetings. A whiteboard would
be great but its actually easy to do a bit of custom code and add that
facility as a seperate proggy:)

Your vision is here already:)

and yes, I agree, corporate customers are already paying for useful
development for all:)

OK lemme just tell ya, the way I recall it, the statement that AW would always
be free came from Danny (Kalak) and when he said it the rest of us kina
said....WHAT??? (I'm assuming here that yer talking about the "lie" about AW
always being free.)

What was that quote from Jubal whats-is-name from Heinlein's Moon is a Harsh
Mistress? Something like, "never attribute things to malice when incompetency
would suffice..." OK I'm not even close but you get the idea. THIS AIN'T GM
LYING ABOUT SAFETY FEATURES IN CARS FOLKS. If you wanna be paranoid about
something, be paranoid about something where there's actually malice at work.

And OTOH, for those who are concerned about the AWCOM people getting bashed and
then not participating anymore...oh GEEZ get REAL. The Internet is fulla
morons. If you wanna post in a newsgroup you can be assured yer gonna get
flamed by morons. That's no excuse not to post. :)

I do not think Goober King would make a good man in charge here. Go ahead
and flame, I'm ready for it (shield is up). I could have telegrammed GK and
told him......I could have told him last night when I saw him in somebody's
town.......I have had a couple of opportunites to tell him when very few
were present, but that's cowardly. I choose to air it out in the ng, where
I think it belongs.

I do not trust a guy that smirks and he isn't going to represent me.

Umm... how is talking to me in person cowardly? If there's anything
cowardly, it would be *not* telling me face to face. If you have a
problem with me, then tell it to my face. Don't avoid me for days on end
and then suddenly decide to post this in the NGs.

And besides, I never said that *I* would ever represent anyone. The only
thing I would ever do is get the Union set up and choose the other
representatives and then let it go on it's way. But, I guess since ENZO
shot that idea down, it's a bit of a moot point...

As for the smirking, what does that have to do with anything?! The only
reason I ever *smirk* is because I'm demonstrating sarcasm, which can be
hard to do in a text-only environment. Just because someone smirks (even
in real life) doesn't mean that person isn't trustworthy. Perhaps if you
tried to learn about the kind of person I really am, instead of avoiding
me like the plague, you would have a better understanding of where I'm
coming from here...

When people have a problem with who might become a leader, they speak about
it in public, in the correct forum - not sending little private messages to
the person or by taking a trip to Outer Worlds (or similar) to protest. If
it was a personal problem I had with you, I would send a private message.
Smirking, in my opinion, is a sign of aloofness. When you are representing
the Active Worlds Community, humble yourself, Bub - that's the Real Deal.

Tell me, when did I ever smirk in my dealings with ENZO or anyone else
from AWC? When dealing with people in a professional setting, I'd like
to think I know how to conduct myself, which includes no smirking. But
in a casual setting, such as these NGs, there is no need for me to keep
up appearances and I can "let my hair down", so to speak. If the leader
you're looking for needs to act like he/she has too much starch in their
underwear all the time, then I guess I'm not it.

Down, boy, down! I never claimed to be a leader, nor do I see myself as
one. I'm merely a guy trying to help out the AW Community in any way I
can. Heck, I was planning to just get the Union set up and organized and
then step back and let the reps run the show and move on to something
else. I don't really have any interest in running such an org 24/7.

You smirked when appearing at a newly founded city to make sure your sign
was up at gz. You are a representative of those whose pictures appear on
your signs. I've never seen E N Z O or Cryonics or Protagonist represent
the citizens here by a *smirk*. Get humble, Bub, and while you are at it,

That also qualifies as a casual setting; we already knew each other and
I was just checking on him. I wasn't "representing" any one then, except
for myself. And I have plenty of respect for those who deserve it.

Sorry if I don't live up to your definiton of "leader", but you'll just
have to get used to the idea. It certainly seems as if your definition
is in the minority...

Oh, and memo to Explorer: Those who are truly humble do not judge those
they think are not...

We'll cross that bridge if I ever see you actually "leading" anything that
profoundly pertains to me. Otherwise, each time you *smirk*, you are a step
farther away from gaining any kind of respect (in the form of a leader) from
me.

The dictionary defines it as "An affected, often offensively
self-satisfied smile". However, as I had stated previously, I use it to
indicate sarcasm, which is hard to do in a text-only environment.

At any rate, the whole point is that whether you smirk or not has no
bearing on your effectiveness as a "leader".
