Some good news =) // Community

After talking to Tom for ages and geting the okay from Enzo, we will be
releasing alot of the older objects sets for download on the new website
when it is released. This will probably include Mars, Yellowstone, Meta
(maybe Atlantis....) objects, *and* there *may* be the posibility (if we can
sort it out and we get the go ahead and all that stuff) that we might
release some object sets that were previously used for internal custom
worlds, but thats a big maybe atm....
But, good news is that those other worlds will be available for download
when the new site gets released =)

I am slightly ignorant when it comes to object paths and such, so please
excuse me if this question makes me sound like a complete idiot, but here
goes: Do the object sets include registries for the objects?

Most excellent :-) Out of curiosity, though, what is so dangerous about an
object registry? I mean, in worlds that have public object paths that are
no big secret, I don't see what harm can come to the world. Now that these
object sets (and maybe registries) are being released, it is no longer a
problem, but I have a newt program that can map out a section of a world
that was scahhed with BuildBot, and can make a 3-D diagram of it and
everything -- its really neat, but it required the object registry to work,
and I wanted to map something out for my friend in COFMeta.

A Registry tells the server the dimensions of an object, so that they can not overlap the objects of another person, therefor puting
an end to encrouching and vandalizing on covered land.

even if it does not come with a registry there is a program that can
generate a registry. But the OP has to be on the computer that is running
it. Im not sure what the url is but if you really need to know i could find
it for you.

First off all, stop posting in html when your just posting text! It makes
it a nightmare to reply to!

The registry is _always_ in the world server folder.
> and the op is usually on another >computer with a webserver (unless you

What a previous poster meant by the need to have the OP local was for using
a registry generator. I believe Andras have one (I havn't used it myself).
Also, if you want to use RWXmod to generate a registry you need to unzip all
the objects and have all the textures in bmp available. As far as I know
(correct me anyone), with Andras's registry generator you don't need to
unzip the models and you don't need the textures. In addition it read cobs
as well (Truespace objects).
Back to the question about the "danger" of registry file. This file is no
secret, it just contains the name and dimensions (sorta) of the models the
world server will recognise as valid (and also check for encroachment of
course). Making it public is harmless.

I knew there was a good reason why I've never posted in html. Anything that makes HenrikG snap can't be good. ;)

very funny... actually, the norm is *NOT* to support HTML, because NNTP has
not been designed for it... But you don't know a crap about what the norm is
anyway, you truly work of selling carpets (not that that's a bad job, but
you won't know the most about puters, heh?)... I'm not saying that anyone
who disagrees is wrong... but ny coincidence, you disagree and you are
wrong... it isn't my fault, is it? oh, and my father's got his own
computer... he never uses mine...

Nice try (b)Eepite...
Like, your rant is going to influence anyone...
For those new to the NG, note the complete lack of any mention re: why one
would still be using software that's over 5 years behind the norm. (Daddy
won't let you DL/instal anything new?) Instead we get a diatribe, in upper
case with 4-letter words no less, attempting to influents everyone that they
are correct and anyone who disagrees is wrong.
When my first born was 2 she use to do the same thing. We called it a temper
tantrum. A swift swat on the backside (this was before the 'bleeding
heart's' decided it was better to raise children without instruction) a
number of times and she learned to behave herself... (it appears your youth
is showing)
Alas, your type never learn... MUTE...

cuneiforms aren't interesting, this isn't the ancient inscriptions NG, this
is the AW Community NG, and no one cares about cuneiforms, and they bloat
