Hi :)
Does anyone know if there is an ftp with a resume option? If not, would it be at all possible for one of you nice programmers out there in AW land to PLEEEEEEEEEEES make an ftp with a resume on it, for those of us with dial up and can't stay connected long enough to upload a large file after trying for 2 days? Just wondering :) Imagine john viperJul 22, 2001, 10:46am
Don't know much about FTP, but I think that both the software and the server
have to support it. -John "imagine" <imagines at seatac.net> wrote in news:3b5a6f03 at server1.Activeworlds.com: > Hi :) > Does anyone know if there is an ftp with a resume option? > If not, would it be at all possible for one of you nice programmers out > there > in AW land to PLEEEEEEEEEEES make an ftp with a resume on it, for those > of us with dial up and can't stay connected long enough to upload a > large file after trying for 2 days? > Just wondering :) > > Imagine > > > -- _____________________________________________ Jeff Tickle (John Viper, #296714) jviper at jtsoft.net http://www.jtsoft.net sw chrisJul 22, 2001, 2:44pm
Most servers do support resuming downloads. I would think that those same
servers would support resuming uploads. SW Chris [View Quote] hal9000Jul 22, 2001, 3:26pm
Yes Bullet Proof FTP does support resuming uploads and downloads, the URL is

Could be, but the feature would only be there if the designers tought of it.
Resumed downloads do not for certain mean resumed uploads. -John "sw chris" <chrisw10 at nckcn.com> wrote in news:3b5b02d8 at server1.Activeworlds.com: > Most servers do support resuming downloads. CuteFTP is by far the best FTP software out there. 4.2.2 is the latest
version of it but it is only a 30 day trial. Anyone have a serial/crack for it? :-) -- - Syntax - www.swcity.net [View Quote] syntaxJul 22, 2001, 10:50pm
I'm gonna end up doing that too. hehe :-)

I think all ftp clients support resuming if the upstream server does. I like GetRight: www.getright.com which can be legit for $25.
The free version is ad driven. RealPlayer has one which seems to d/l automatically at certain ZDnet sites and takes over as the ftp client (my getright went poof -- I had to uninstall the RP ftp client and put getright back in the startup folder). RP wouldn't be so bad if it werent for the obnoxious ads which pop up and can crash you if your resources are marginal. Anything AOL gets its hands on turns crappy -- now the realplayer on my old computer crashes it every time I try to play a streaming media. -- billyat (Bill the Yat) "if you don't like polls -- LIE TO THE POLSTERS" [View Quote] jermeJul 23, 2001, 4:59am
CuteFTP is by far the best FTP client I've ever seen... I would recommend it
over any other. It has the resume feature (look for it in the options), and many many more. I did have a crack for this...but lost it in a reformat/reinstall. Lately I tried to download it again, along with a crack (try http://www.crackz.ws/) However, GlobeScape has since added server auth to the software. No matter what I tried...server always rejected the crack... Good luck, and let me know if you get it too work. I'm working on setting up a server (look for it to be online within the next 1- 1 1/2 weeks) and thus I have looked into FTP software. John Viper is right... You have to have a decent piece of server software... Not all of it is capable of using the resume uploads feature. [View Quote] john viperJul 23, 2001, 8:50am
Eek! They got Real, too? No wonder the thing sucks so bad, I never liked
it, but I didnt know they sold out to AOL... (thing I hated most was all the advertisements to upgrade for free, bringing you only to a page telling you its FREE! for only $29.95.) -John "billyat" <billyat at telocity.com> wrote in news:3b5baed2$1 at server1.Activeworlds.com: > I think all ftp clients support resuming if the upstream server does. Yeah, AOL bought 'em out couple of years ago. My daughter uses AOL so i'm stuck with Real (it installs automatically if you don't
have it). But I used to think Real Video was the greatest -- I watched the Rover land on Mars in real time with it. What a trip. -- billyat (Bill the Yat) "if you don't like polls -- LIE TO THE POLSTERS" [View Quote] wingJul 23, 2001, 5:33pm
AOL owns everything on the Windows platform that M$ doesn't. Unfortunately the only serious instand message choices are AIM and ICQ.
The latter is better, but turning into Adware (unless they took that off in one of the updates I don't ever bother downloading anymore because they just turn it more and more like AIM) and the former is a pain in the ass that little kiddies like to use. "I like to go on AOL when I get home!" --Lame kiddies that don't realize the internet extends FAR beyond the corners of their cute little Buddy Lists and parental controls. (PLEASE teach your daughter the difference between AOL and the internet so I don't find the need to do so when she's 20 and bumps into me on the street while) [View Quote] billyatJul 24, 2001, 11:25am
Well wing, she's 27 and an Capoeira Angola expert (that's an African martial art and/or dance). She's planning a trip to Brazil to
attend the International Capoeira Angola Conference and a trip to Seattle to represent Louisiana in the National Poetry Slams. I think if I dumped AOL I'd be another domestic violence stat. MSN Messenger Service works fine. The ads are relegated to the hotmail which you can just not open up and a little partition at the bottom of the window. BTW I just noticed yet another ftp client -- NetAnts, www.netants.com Don't know anything about it except it's supposed to have all th bells and whistles -- multithreading, resume, clip-board aware, etc that GetRight has. And it's free, but I don't know how obnoxious its ads are. billyat (Bill the Yat) "if you don't like polls -- LIE TO THE POLSTERS" [View Quote] sweJul 24, 2001, 2:09pm

Ahh, I had mistaken her for yet another know-it-all 12 year old. Dealt with them too often lately.
