Actually syli I rarely get in envolved in flame wars. Except for a few
issues were people were being flamed for just existing (Gor) and the world
theft issues.

Basically the rules are not set in stone. Yes we debate like crazy in this
newsgroup, cause its the community and in communities people debate often.

For awhile even Eep tried to tone his remarks down. And started giving
warnings before he pulled out the big guns.

But there are lots of new people here who aren't bothering to even try to
get along. True Eep and I have ended up on opposite sides of some real
heated battles. But even though I don't like him (and believe me I don't), I
still respect him.

What the newer posters don't seem to understand is that 1) Respect is the
most important thing here. Without earning the respect of the people who
were here before and listening to them when they try to help, you end up in
situations of perpetual flame wars.

2) All newsgroups have house rules, that the older more experienced members
will try to pass on to the new less experienced (at least as how that ng is
run) newbies. Sometimes those rules can be bent, but if you break them
prepare to get burned.

3) Learn how to win (or loose gracefully) keep a topic to a few threads as
possible, don't drag it into every thread that is created just cause you
want people to read it. We can't do anything to change anything except whats
inside this ng. We will point you to where your supposed to go, thats not
passing the buck but giving you the infomation you need.

4) After a point let it die. After a time topics grow old and people no
longer want to hear about it. Remember many have limited bandwidth (a few
lucky ones like me have cable but I hope you get the point) so they can't
afford to download 99999999999999999999 posts on smurfs if the ng is about
dolphins for example. Why not try your hand at HTML and make a webpage that
covers all your arguments and put a link to it in your sig file. Its saves
bandwidth and you can write as much as you want on the topic. And you won't
get flamed for wasting bandwith.

5) Limit your posts to plain text. There are many people who's newsreaders
cant read HTML posts or who get charged by how much bandwidth is used.
Unless a ng has binaries in the address, you should keep your posts to plain
text. Why have a file nearly a mb in size when it can be just as easily be 2
or 3k with the same amount of text.

Everything you said makes sense...thanks....i was reacting more to the
generalization and belittling of all newbies when it didn't appear to me the
established clientele in here was being anymore productive. Maybe my timing
is off, but of late all its looked like in here is one huge food
fight...lol.....

Believe me once they get the newbies to follow the house rules things get
back to normal (at least normal for this place *rolls his eyes*) and we are
able to be more productive.

Its only when people don't follow those general guidelines that there is a
flame fest.

Basically if you try to stay polite and give the old timers the respect they
have earned for lasting so long, then things should go relatively smooth.

Chuck.....irony is, i believe i have followed the charter , but seems i
still pick up a lump of generalized pre-packaged fragrance enhanced doo doo
that isnt supported by the posts placed here from various members of the
group new and old. I dont mind charter waving flamers so long as they are
following the charter....does earning respect mean that then i can say and
do whatever i want in here while waving the charter around under everyone
else's nose? If so........Puleez disrespect me.....lol

Yes I know dear, it's why I am indulging in that little block button now, I
do enjoy your posts and you have something to offer and say, that to me is
more important than wether you are perfectly on topic or not, you are a part
of this Community like everyone else and can post what you like, as I've
said I have no problems with a good clean fair debate, but the attacking and
profanity has got to go and I am making the changes I feel are neccessary to
compose myself and not have to deal with people that incite me to it, LOL So
sorry it won't be me disrespecting you, for that... well um just post
something off topic will ya, LOL
