I have been discussing with AW in email, trying to resolve a matter which
they don't seem to care about. I was told in December when I signed up that I could have my citizenship credited towards a world. Now they want to charge the full price. I will have to pay the same price for a world that inlcudes a citizen. That means either you pay $100 for a world, NOT $80 unless you know you want it. How was I supposed to know then I wanted to invest money for a world before building and learning it? insanityApr 11, 2001, 7:52pm
As far as others getting your grams... your name will have changed on their
contact lists to your new name based on your cit # so you are safe there. Yes it is rude that anyone annoys or steals. As far as AW caring... well, don't hold your breath... they just care for your green. Except..if the citizen who stole the name is also on the same contact
lists..then the name will appear still..as if nothing has changed. All contact lists you and the thief both appear on will see the name and think it is still you unless you inform them. There will be a changed name yes, but it will be the one that you meant to switch to temporarily. If citizen A and citizen B switched names and were both on the contact list of citizen C..Citizen C still sees A and B...how would he know they switched names unless he was told? The post has nothing to do with someone stealing another one's account.
Please read the post again more carefully. [View Quote] ananasApr 11, 2001, 9:59pm
They both replied to the wrong thread - it wasn't against you.
Check the thread above, that was the one they replied to. [View Quote] carolannApr 11, 2001, 10:10pm
I'm very sorry...I posted a reply based on the post that preceded mine.
Both were in the wrong place...but now that I'm here...I wasn't aware you could apply the cost of your existing citizenship to a world......the trial worlds they offer for 30 days are supposed to help you decide if you like world ownership, but if they promised that they should of course honor it. It would help maybe if this was an e-mail correspondence you had with them. But if they don't honor that and you keep the world, it's a nice gesture to offer the extra citizenship to a tourist who is particularly helpful to you, or maybe to one who seems to especially like your world. Hope it works out. [View Quote] m a r c u sApr 11, 2001, 11:42pm
"I wasn't aware you could apply the cost of your existing citizenship"
Apparently, you can't. They sell you a citizenship, then when you want to get a world they sell you a world which includes a citizen. If I knew about that, I wouldn't have bought a citizen and built as a tourist. Then, I would have purchased a world for $80. If I buy a world now, it would come to a total of $100. "It would help maybe if this was an e-mail correspondence you had with them." In my original post I said, "I have been discussing with AW in email" Please read these posts carefully, sorry for snapping but when you type the same thing over and over again and people don't read your words it gets very frustrating trying to communicate. [View Quote] jfk2Apr 12, 2001, 12:19am
Well... There is one little thing your are not taking ito an account
here concerning the world buy. If it's a small world p10/5 type you get ONE free cit with that. But generally the bigger the world is that you buy... The more free cit's that go along with that world. So if you bout something like a p200/100 world you migght end up with 5 - 7 free cits and not just plain one. m a r c u s <none at sfsdfsd.come> wrote in <3ad5081b at server1.Activeworlds.com>: >"I wasn't aware you could apply the cost of your existing citizenship" > >Apparently, you can't. Then, I > would have purchased a world for $80. If I buy a world now, it would come > to a total of $100. As I said, I have read the world purchasing pages very thoroughly and saw that I can see if I like it for free for 30 days...a good deal I thought. Then when I am ready to buy a world I can send the $100 (for example) and was happy to see included in the cost are 1, 2 or 3 citizenships..a bonus I thought...the world itself was what costed $100. It never mentioned anything about a trade-in allowance. I still think they should honor your special agreement with them, however I guess they get to set the pricing and we either go along or not. As jfk2 pointed out, some worlds come with more, so their intention does not seem to have them as trade-backs...maybe as something a world owner can put to other uses. Seriously though, if it does say that somewhere and I missed that too..please let me know..I have some money coming. (kidding here though...they are a great bonus) > "It would help maybe if this was an e-mail > correspondence you had with them." > > In my original post I said, "I have been discussing with AW in email" > > Please read these posts carefully, sorry for snapping but when you type the > same thing over and over again and people don't read your words it gets very > frustrating trying to communicate. I'm sorry, I understand your anger..but I guess what I was getting at was on the strength of the saved e-mail correspondence with them I am quite certain if you went about things the right way you will get them to honor their written promise, provided that's how the wording went. You said "discussing with AW in email"...have they flat out refused yet..or are they slow in replying...have you sent them a copy of their email stating they would allow this? They can, if need be, be reached by phone as I have done. I admit I can't recall if they have a toll free number, but you could find that out and if they do...that would certainly be my next step. Bait and Switch is a serious legal offense where I am from..and also a serious accusation. Was this a special circumstance or request? I did read your post carefully and didn't see how it came about that they promised this. I have read the pages regarding purchasing a world very thoroughly on several occasions and don't recall of seeing that stated...but a gaurantee by them should have to be honored. Persistance usually pays off. world A trial world is great for this..and 30 days really fires us your enthusiasm if you really end up wanting to buy. s p a r kApr 12, 2001, 2:03am
After the licence your just paying for the cits! I got two free cits with my
world, whis was, of coarse, 40$! How do you like dem apples? ~S p a r K [View Quote] m a r c u sApr 12, 2001, 2:33am
Can you tell me the advantage of multiple citizens then?
I can only sign on with one screen name at a time and if I bounce from one account to another my contacts can't contact me. [View Quote] jfk2Apr 12, 2001, 2:48am
That too is a simple answer. It's FREE advertisement. Think about it.
You buy a world. Even a tiny p10/5 you get ONE free cit. What do you do with it. You might have a friend that you know who my have asked or told you that they wished they could get a cit but don't have the $$ to buy one. So you are nice & let them have that free cit. You just saved your friend $19.95 for the one year. But next year comes and your friend is now hooked on AW. how fast will your friend pay for his cit renewal? That answer is FAST. And aw has now gained one more paying member. It gets more dramatic the bigger worlds you buy. You might get say 7 free cits. OK.... As in Broadway World... they have a BW Builder account [May have gotten that as a FREE cit when they bought the world. And they also have a BW Helper account... Same there... got another free cit. and any others they may have given them to their friends. So next year when the friends free cits run out... They will make sure they get it renewed. And the world owners will make sure that they pay the extra $39.90 for their 2 extra accounts they use for world building. [NewYork World has the same thing with the New Yorker build account] But AWCOM now has a few more happy paying coustomers. m a r c u s <none at sfsdfsd.come> wrote in <3ad53032$1 at server1.Activeworlds.com>: >Can you tell me the advantage of multiple citizens then? > >I can only sign on with one screen name at a time and if I bounce from one >account to another my contacts can't contact me. > [View Quote] carolannApr 12, 2001, 3:04am
Aha! Now I can call you on not reading thoroughly :-) I quote what I
wrote earlier "But if they don't honor that and you keep the world, it's a nice gesture to offer the extra citizenship to a tourist who is particularly helpful to you, or maybe to one who seems to especially like your world." One advantage I didn't mention is you can use the new citizenship to build if you like to build undisturbed too..using your normal cit's privileged password so all your work is in your normal cit name, then when you want to have fun with your AW friends..you can do that in your normal citizenship. And as long as your world is renewed, so will the citizenship. [View Quote] s p a r kApr 12, 2001, 3:32am
No the cit doesn't get re-newed with thw world :(
I use my one of my extra ones to build, and gave the other to my co-CT becuase his cit expired, go figure :D. [View Quote] run facter runApr 12, 2001, 12:37pm

"But if they don't honor that...."
that = emailing or does that = discount if I try out the citizenship, then pay for a world later AW will get $20 more ($100 total) from each person that buys a citizenship first if they charge that citizen who could have paid for a world at $80 instead of $60 using the smallest world as an example. [View Quote] m a r c u sApr 12, 2001, 5:53pm
"And as long as your world is renewed, so will the citizenship."
If I could have my citizenship renewed with the $10 renewal fee for the smallest world the following year, YEAH I would pay. That is half the cost of a citizen. But, I am afraid to say, if you purchase a world you will be guranteed to have to pay $30 the next year. I proposed this for AWschool. They should offer a truespace and a world combo for $100. Then they can do various things liek upgrade True Space and sell the upgrades. [View Quote] nornnyApr 12, 2001, 6:59pm
Excuse me marcus for being so unprepared in my following statements, I
haven't read thoroughly the posts in this thread. But you seem pretty anal over the fact that you're getting a citizenship or multiple cits for a world. :) I'm assuming that the cit is not part of what you're paying for, but rather just a "freebie" to entice more prospective world owners. That free cit can't be transferred as a renewal to your cit because for one, I doubt awcom has a way of doing that and if they did, it would take more time than just handing one out. And two, the cit isn't for you silly, it's for you to give to a friend, a tourist of your world, or for an account used for building if you have a building team. When you're getting multiple cits, you can prolly use it for all three reasons I explained up there. :)) I guess the cit is just a kind gesture passed down in the AW social ladder. :)) But what you're paying for is the world, I don't believe any of the money you're using to pay is going for the citizenship(s) account. Just an extra. :)) As for the bouncing from contact to contact thing, that's not what the cit is usually used for, unless you're using it as a secret identity. :) Usually, you put building privs, ps privs, and other world privs on that new cit and you log in with a priviledge password to use it. :)) That's what I've seen being done in other worlds. First of all you mentioned "discount if I try out the citizenship, then pay for the world later". The way I see it, you try out the citizenship by being a tourist..if you like that then for $20/year you get more. You try out the world by getting a trial..if you like it you pay full price and have extra citizenship(s) as a bonus. No mention is made of a discount if you try out a citizenship, then pay for a world later..at least I haven't seen it. By "honor that" I meant the special agreement you may have had with them...I never saw exactly how that came about nor have you clarified when or how you reached this agreement with them so that is how I had to word it. To my knowledge it isn't mentioned where most of those seeking to buy a world can see it. Also, yes it is true that AW will get $20 from each person who buys a citizenship and $(whatever amount) if he also buys a world..to paraphrase what I understand you to say, because they are two seperate purchases from all I understand. It seems otherwise the infamous Immigration guy would offer the package of citizenship/world to tourists. It's been awhile but I don't think he does. carolannApr 12, 2001, 9:21pm

It doesn't? I based my belief that the citizenships were also renewed on
the fact that their renewal page also lists them in the chart. http://www.activeworlds.com/products/renewal.html Since it isn't the original purchase page but the renewal page it implies that I thought. [View Quote] s p a r kApr 13, 2001, 2:43am
