Hi Peep's. I have some more complaints. maybe ya'll can help me or maybe
some of you have the same complaints/problems. Soooooooooooo here I go. Grab
something to drink and go potty cuz it's gonna be a long post. Sowwy :o(

My first complaint is.....I am a world owner and co-owner of another world.
Well I have a Xelagot bot (which is where I noticed the problem) Well I use
the Xelagot bot to alert me of anyone coming into my world when I am
elsewhere so i can go be with my visitors. I love the Xelagot for that
reason. Well There is a function on there that DOES sound when someone is
within the vacinity. Well I come to AW and right away I get an upgrade
notice (which incidentally I think is BS and I'll explain why). So I
upgraded but NOT happily. Why? Because I think upgrading should be an OPTION
not forced. What do I mean? Well when 3.0 came out, I got the very same
alerts and EVERY time I logged on, I would get the same box slammed in my
face so finally I said FINE if that's what it takes to get it OUT of my face
then i'll upgrade so I did. As it turned out I did love 3.0 BUT I didn't
like the fact that it was forced on me. I would say no but whenever I'd come
to AW I'd get the same message so it wasn't much of a choice. Now AW
upgrades to 3.1 and the SAME problem. I think upgrading SHOULD be an option
because not everyone has the requirements OR the space for upgrading.....Ok
now back to what I was saying previously. Getting back to the Xelagot. Well
I noticed that it wasn't beeping to alert me anymore like it had previously
and I didn't understand why. I checked to make sure the beep option was on
and it was. Then I checked my volume control thingy and it too was OK. Well
then I went to control panel and THIS is the message I got.
http://www.geocities.com/yonkers21/sndcrd.jpg
Oh and incidentally, I had NO sound in IE either.WHICH aggrivated me because
I like sounds. And in AW the midi's sound HORRIBLE now. They sound VERY
cheap. It's the best way i can explain it. There is virtually NO bass or
whatever sound it is.

Ok Next complaint......
Another complaint I have is that AW now has new commands (light, rotate,
etc.) I just wanna know ONE thing ok? WHAT is the POINT in having them if
the commands CAN'T be used in Alpha World? NOT everyone can build in private
worlds OR own a world. My opinion (and others seem to feel the same) If
there are special commands they SHOULD be available to ALL users to ALL
worlds NOT just private worlds. MOST of us are regular builders in Alpha
World and WildAW. I for one have a very small world and can't do all the
building I like to do in Alpha World. Also some of the objects Alpha World
has i don't have on the persons OP I am using. I also don't understand the
need to not let us use the "Z" objects either. I mean they can be used in
WildAW, why not Alpha too? What's the point of having them on the list?

Another complaint I have is.............
Midi's on sites. Not only do they now sound HORRIBLE but now when you walk
away, they fade. I don't like that, but can live with it I suppose. I like
to be able to listen to the whole song (provided it's my taste). But getting
to the HORRIBLE part. Before the new 3.1 upgrade, the midi's all sounded
wonderful and were bassey (spelling) and really sounded nice (I have good
speakers for my PC) but now they sound, hippie kinda so to speak. Ummm they
sound cheap. I'm not sure exactly how to describe it except HORRIBLE. I
don't know about wav's yet because I haven't checked one out.

On the POSSITIVE side....yes there are some possitives....lol
I LOVE the little hand that shows where there is an activate command. it
saves a lot of accidental clicking. I also love the rotation commands, light
commands etc. but as I stated previously, I think those commands should be
available to ALL in ALL worlds INCLUDING Alpha World.

Ok I think I'm done. If not, rest assured i'll be back. lol

Well, I personally think it is good to be able to give certain people the
rights to use the special commands. As mentioned on their pages, these
commands can cause "severe" lag if used too much, they drop your frame rate
for every special command you use. So, personally, it's a good feature.

>I also don't understand the

Z Objects are so world owners can, on their own objects paths, set up
objects with the first letter as "Z" and prevent others from using it. IE:
The CY award could even be called ZCY which would have prevented everyone
from placing it all over AW. "Z" makes it special to the world owners, so
you can have special objects for example, GZ, which you would not like the
see those objects used anywhere else in your world...
This feature and the special commands feature, I feel, are great 8^D

I feel the same for this here, the midis and wav's sound really bad. I do
notice it is more in surround sound though... BUT, the quality has really
dropped. I tried playing an mp3, and yes, as you say, the bass is all gone,
including midi files....

[View Quote] Never noticed any lag at all. AW3.1 lags less and has higher framerates with
multiple instances of ALL these commands within view, than 3.0 did without
these commands. The real reason for the restricted commands is possible
abuse. Move, rotate, light, etc. dont check for encroachment with their
effect. If you ask me, if you make your builds subject to other people's
stupidity, you deserve it.

Tried it with a nice pop rock track. MxPx-Teenage Politics sounds real nice
in Winamp (which I have running in DirectSound mode) but in AW, the bass is
gone. It just sounds like CRAP.

Ok Anduin on the part for example of the CY awards I agree with ya there,
but the objects I'm mainly talking about, are like signs, pict's and so
forth. Now the CY award and other personal stuff I can understand but what's
the big deal with the bigger and better signs and pict's? Or like walks,
floor pieces and so on? I did an object yard (very small one) and had all
the objects up and I saw what they look like (in WildAW) and personally, I
don't see why they can't be used in Alpha as well. I mean if they can be
used in WildAW why not Alpha too?

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having the sound problems. Ummmmmm Oh
boy I know I'm gonna catch hell over this next statement but I just gotta
say it because PPL do agree with me, but.......

I think AW should fix ALL the bugs in ONE version before they put out a NEW
version AND i feel that AW should make sure the NEW versions are bug free
before asking people to upgrade. Like the sounds for example. When I got the
3.0 I didn't notice quite as many bugs as quickly as I do in 3.1. Right now
at this point, (forgive me for saying this, but) 3.1 SUCKS with a few
exceptions.

Anduin. I'm sorry but I don't agree with ya on the commands. I think if AW
advertises the new commands and they are able to be used in the private
worlds they should be able to be used in Alpha too. I mean they allow
commands for texture and color, why not these new commands too? it's the
same thing just different commands. AW has advertised for some time now that
they have these "wonderful" commands in 3.1 and everyone is gonna love them.
Well how is everyone gonna love them if they don't have access to them? How
many worlds do you know that allow Tourists to build? I don't know of too
many myself. it makes it hard for people to enjoy the new 3.1

Hey everyone upgrade 3.1 we have great features, new commands and you all
are gonna love them. But you can't use them in Alpha world because we don't
want you to.

THAT Anduin is basically what they are saying. they advertise it, ya upgrade
but what they advertise they don't allow ya to have access to UNLESS you are
in a "private" world and I don't think that's right! Basically 3.1 is
totally USELESS to MANY users and I don't think it's right to ask them ti
upgrade to somethint they won't have access to. That's just the way I see it
too.

P.S.
Told ya's I'd be back. lol

[View Quote] Yes, I agree with you too then, if they allow you to use thos Z objects in
WildAW, why not AW... Those signs are pretty spunky I suppose, in some
effect, although most AW objects suck...

Agreed, they should put the beta testing on the website for "seperate"
downloading, and until ALL the bugs are fixed right up, then the forced
download could be in effect as there wont be any hassles.

<nods> True, they should be advertising as they did, they should allow
special commands to all around AW but in a restricted radius as to prevent
LAG. Maybe as Wing said earlier about it not recognising encroaching into
anothers property... I mean, who would really want a tree flying around
their newly built house and destroying the place and giving off different
lighting effects. Remember that the movement command can move the object
very far, or atleast to what I have tested to your maximum view.

Well upgrading is totally free so it is not too much of a problem accept for
the disappointment. I'm more or less thinking about what you just said, you
say:
> but what they advertise they don't allow ya to have access to UNLESS you
are
> in a "private" world and I don't think that's right!
Well, the simple answer to that one is... MONEY MONEY, GIMME MORE MONEY!

yeh i to agree that aw 3.1 should not be a upgrade with the pop up box skip
upgrade but a dl from the web site.
also to try and vape some of the bugs your seeing try uninstalling aw and re
dlling 3.0 or sence i havent been to the aw site if 3.1 is avail as a full
dl installer dl it instead this may help with some of the problems.
i found that doing this in 3.0 got rid of some stability problems with 3.0
and may help in 3.1 as well.

First of all, light works in AW. Also, WildAW was created because of all
the people bitching about Z objects. If you don't like AW, go to WildAW,
all the commands are availible there. Also, 3.1 hs undergone a beta process
to get out bugs, Im sorry if the new sound doesn't please you but its not
like Roland coded everything in one day and shoved it down your throat.
Also, if you can run 3.0, then its guaranteed you can run 3.1, so there is
no point in making it a choice. If you want your Xelagot to sound, turn off
AW sounds, Ive never been able to play other sounds when aw sounds were
playing. Also, the sound will get improved in 3.2 as well. A lot of
zobjects are setup with high polys so theyd lag more, and some of the signs
arent in the registry popular. In worlds where they can be used, they have
often been abused, and in bad taste. If you need bigger pictures, it is
possible to shove pieces of pictures together. Also, sign4 and sign5 are
much larger then sign3, so they help you there. And as said, the way aw is
currently set up, allowing move and rotate in AW would be very bad, at least
be happy you have light.

Okay, here is my take on this.

1) AW having restricted commands - well, think about it, would you like
someone that has a building plot right near GZ to be able to throw a fridge
into the middle of the GZ using a move command? Or how about your neighbour,
rotating images of some fiend or so into your yard ? The reason it is
disabled in AW for citizens, is because there is so much room for abuse - if
we could of put int he new features, and said "sure, everyone will totally
behave" then we would -but, can you honestly say that we would not receive
hundreds upon hundreds of complaints about people doing jsut that? I know
for a fact that my inbox would be full of complaints jsut like that =)

The is no way for the objects to check encrochment, to do so would make
things lag so much, that the feature wouldnt be worth it in the first place.
The new commands are *totally* different to any other commands, in that
these are the first command that you can enable that are able to *affect
another persons building*, so the comparison between them and the texture
commands dont really apply,t hey are in a totally different class
altogether.

It was either put on a restriction, or not have the move and rotate commands
at all - that was the choice in the matter, due to the way it was set up,
and we all wanted to at least have those features inth e browser, but , if
there was no restriction, they would neve rof been put in in the first
place. Its just too easy for people to abuse that priviledge. Roland could
answer most of this so much better than me, but this is the general way
things went when it was implemented.

2) Forced upgrades - there are less bugs in 3.1 than in 3.0, for a fact.
Even some long standing bugs in 3.0 and *earlier* have been fixed in 3.1.
Also, it is a policy to disable older browsers as we phase in new ones, so,
if the upgrade isnt made,t hen there owuld be no way for you to enter the
universe at all - which is why we have that upgrade - you do have the option
to skip it though, though, we dont know how long we can support it for. At
the moment, we support *three* different browsers (2.2,3.0 and 3.1) when it
should just be one. 3.2 *should* bring us back to that level, but until
then, we dont have the resources to support so many different variations on
one thing - especially when one of those versions is now outdated (3.0).

3) Sound - well, after extensive beta testing,mt his is the first time sound
degredation of this kind has even been heard of. My sound is warmer, and
most people sound is so much better...it was very "tinny" for me in 3.0, but
now with the direct sound it sounds able, and full bodied. Have you upgraded
your sound card drivers ? I have no drop in bass...nor have there been many
complaints about this whtsoever - if it is a valid bug, and not jstut he
result of a system configuration,t hen please email the problem to me and
I'll send it over to the lads to take a look into.

4) Z objects. This is such an old argument =) Originally, Z objects were
only used by staff because the browsers couldnt handle too many of them.
They are higher polygon, and easily cause lag. With the new renderware, this
has kind of lessened, and I may ask in our next staff meeting if we can
relax the restrictions now on Z objects in Alphaworld. I can only ask for
you =)

As for 3.1 sucking...weeeeelllll, I *personally* think its the best AW
release yet (and having used the browser since 1996 trust me on that) - and
this is only the beginning - Pollen rocks in 3.1 =)

Hope that helps explain a few things =)

Facter.

the special commands aren't availaible in AW because they can lead to
encrouching-i thought it was a very wise decision. I think that having the
upgrade box is also good, or people might still be using 2.1 not realizing
that there's an upgrade available. All work done to the browser will be
going beyond what's on 3.1... here's a good example.. if you use a program,
often times they have an update feature telling you when you log in that
there is a new version, so you upgrade, what makes this any different? I
think it's a great feature, and I use it, but I do keep the preceding
version on my comp, but use the newest primarily. The new features on 3.1
can make other versions of the browser obselete, with these features a world
can become an amazing sight, but with other world browsers you see
blackness... with sounds.. i don't know what to say.. they work great for
me...I can have other sounds with them... as far as MIDI's sucking... get
over it.. they ALWAYS sucked.. and ALWAYS WILL suck...

Ok I'm back again. (as if that's a surprise)

Facter, I can understand SOME of your reasoning but not all. The command
thingy's as far as the rotations go, THAT part I can understand, but what
about the lighting etc.? I feel that if the commands can't be used in AW
then WHY have them even mentioned or available? As far as using them in
private worlds, the same goes there as YOU feel it does in AW. I think it's
a waste of money, space and time having 3.1. As far as that so called
"option" you say AW gives it's BULLSHIT (pardon my language) We hit NO and
what happens everytime we come to AW? We get the SAME damn message...."AW
has a newer version of AW do you want to run and install it?"...Quite
frankly, it's a pain in the ASS to hit NO each time you wanna come to AW.
As far as you saying that the 3.1 bugs are better than 3.0, I see MORE bugs
in 3.1 than 3.0. As far as the sound, it IS crappy and NOT everyone can
afford to get a new sound card. First of all, my PC isn't even half paid for
and I'm NOT allowed to upgrade or anything to it until it's paid for. My
income is LESS than $700.00 a month and I can't afford it. I think AW needs
to (like someone else said in their post) put the options separate so we
don't keep getting the 3.1 shoved down out throats.

I think all these excuses AW is giving to us all here is BULLSHIT (again,
pardon my language) EVERYTIME we turn around AW is upgrading and the
problems seem to worsen our computers. We get errors, we have this problem,
that problem yaddie, yaddie, yaddie and what does AW do? NOT a DAMN thing
except say...E-mail us with the problem then ya'll send us back an E-mail
that is not only complicated for a newbie such as myself but also filled
with excuses. I've gotten some of your E-mails with explanations on how to
do this n' that and haven't been able to make heads nor tails out of them.
Sorry but I am angry here and so are a few others.

Oh and Myrth...My AW sounds WERE off for your information and the the sounds
EVEN for IE wouldn't work. And yer nasty message BACK to me was NOT
neccessary either. You were VERY rude to me and it was totally uncalled for.
I wasn't RUDE to you. All I did was expressed my opinions and complaints.
You COULD have been a little more nicer ya know. I didn't do anything to
you! As far as my asking about the "Z" objects, that's ALL I was doing. And
I DON'T go to WildAW because I don't like the fog OR the lighting there. WHY
do you think I fought so damn hard to have it removed from Alpha World?
DUUUUUH!!! I only go to WildAW on rare occasions and usually it's for a Bday
build or something like we all did for Flagg but that's IT! As a rule I stay

I am sorry that I was unable to satisfy you with my answers Myssie, I did
try to explain as best I could.

Unfortuantly, there is nothing else beyond explaining things that I can do,
you are probably the only really outspoken person that I have seen so far
that does not like 3.1, and I am sorry that it is that way for you.

None of my post was intended as "excuses", it was an attempt to be honest
with you on exactly why things are the way they are. I have no need to post
any excuses when it is plain truth and the way that the situation has to be
implemented. I totally disagree with your "there are more bugs in AW 3.0
than 3.1" statement, and I belive that most people would as well. If you
could perhaps list all of these "bugs" you are talking about I may have a
better idea as to how faulty your installation is.

I have received roughly 15 emails since yesterday with problems associated
with 3.1 on its release, now, compare that to my email inbox of over one
*hundred* problems the day after 3.0 was released - I think that is a very
good indication as to how less buggy this release actually is.

I dont set policy here, and I dont expect you to agree with me, but, that
is, how things are - there is not much more I can do but say I am sorry you
are dissatisfied.

WildAW is a very nice place that you can go if you want to use the commands

Facter. As far as you are concerned, I apologize to you for my rudeness.
Just because I was pissed off with Myrth there didn't give me the right to
be rude towards you and I do apologize.

As far as my opinion on the new commands being available, I feel if they
can't be used in ALL worlds then they should NOT be advertised. Mnay of the
people here were excited about 3.1 coming out because of the new commands
and now that 3.1 is out they can't be used by those that do not own a world
or access to building in a private world. i'm just saying it's unfair to
them is all. They pay their $20.00 and they do their upgrading like everyone
else, but what is the point of the upgrade if they can't enjoy and use the
special commands as well?

That's all I am saying.

Well actually, I lied. I am gonna post something else but it has nothing to
do with this conversation here. it's just a question to all.

Myssie I read myths posts and he was not rude in the least. Some commands
and objects are not allowed on some worlds because of all the vandalism that
goes on.

Building large things with bots was banned in AW because it was too easy to
cover large amounts of land. I know I found out the hard way. And had to ask
Dalphine who had been a PK at the time to come in and help me delete a 3
mile long and 3 mile wide goof up I made.

The reasons that certain commands and objects get blocked is because there
are people out there too immature, and would go around and deliberately ruin
other peoples builds.

I have ended up on some worlds where a guy just duplicated every object 400
times just for the heck of it, using the tourist status to get around the
encroachment. Usually I would end up spending hours deleting that crap and
tgramming the world owner about it.

If you want them to allow people to be able to use those commands on AW then
you have to get rid of ALL the people that vandalize builds. And since that
is virtually impossible, those commands will stay turned of in AW.

WildAW if I remember was created because people who could not afford or
didn't want to own their own worlds, but still wanted a place where they
would be able to use all the commands and objects available.

[View Quote] True, but browsers become obsolete after each browser version. I mean, you
can pretty much fit every computer into either 2.2 or 3.1 compatible or
neither. :) I mean, what would AW look like with half the users on 3.0, a
quarter on 2.2, and another quarter on 3.0 when 3.0 and 3.1 requirements are
pretty much the same.

Wish I can help you there, but try cntrl-alt-delete and make sure of any
funky programs that might be playing when you don't need it. :)

I never minded it. I did hear a distinct difference, but nothing drastic. I
never liked midis anyways. :)

Zobjects AND move and rotate are all objects that can horrible flood
Alphaworld with junk. :) You can make objects that "move" past multiple
properties that aren't yours and there's no way of stopping it other than
your own. Which means, major vandalism. :) Flying porn, anyone? Zobjects
usually are big and bulky, which causes lag in worlds that are too high in
lag already like AW. :)

Then stay in the same area. :) Midis playing even when you've been FAR away
from the object doesn't seem realistic. I think it's a good effect. :) Nice
to turn the volume away from walking away is a good thing. :)

well, one possible curb is to use landa and textureize them as they are
light-compatible. The problem is that it's only the size of walk001h and
nothing smaller. :)

Hey, I know this sounds cheesy and everything, but if you're really
desperate to use 3.1, go to WildAW, or even worse (yet better), AWTeen or
another private world, as they've texturemode lit all the floors and walks.

Soundblaster Live! Value, Soundblaster Live! Platinum 5.1, Creative Ensoniq,
two of which are excellent sound cards, the third being the loser all have
bad sound. And don't even attempt to tell me Creative's sound cards suck.
I've won that arguement many a time.

You make it sound like AW is the cause of all your woes, when it could be
your system.

[View Quote] Then deal with it or get a new computer!

It could be your sound card.

Yeah right, to me the 3.0 and before midis sound crappy when synthed, now
they actually have a more realisitic tone. Maybe the midis you tried it with
weren't synthesized with this use in mind. Or once again it may be your
sound card. BTW there never was any bass with the synthed midis either.

I agree with you there, I want rotate as it doesn't vandalize much but move
is too much.

WildAW allows special commands, well they did during the beta.

Yeah I hate that too.

Could be your speakers or sound card. I've got a set of 5 watts with a 15
watt subwoofer and AW sounds incredible (and there IS bass). Or maybe just
you don't have DirectSound (which I beleive AW now loads midis with).

same with me, I ran 3.0 on a 2MB Rage Fury (oooh I could feel its power!)
and was lucky to get 20fps, then on 3.1 I averaged 20fps or more. Of course,
now that I upgraded I can get an average of 40-60fps ^_^

Augh you voice your opinion, thus allowing us to voice ours and then when
you find out that some people disagree you lash out at them and start
cussing, chill.

[View Quote] Creative? Sucks? huh? Surprises me someone actually would come up with that.
Creative makes very good sound cards for years already. Oh well.. there are
always unhappy people.

Are you crazy? The midis sound awesome now, almost mp3 quality. As for move
and rotate being restricted, that's to keep people from encroaching. I
think 3.1 was a waste of time since a majority of the AWians can't use it.
