After speaking to Mountain Myst, she just wanted to post this here, but she
is currently having some issues with her news account (tech support,
incoming!)

This is just FYI, and a continuing way to let the community know a little
more "behind the scenes" via this newsgroup. Hope you all find it of
interest.

Mountain Myst

*smile* Ok...... as most of you will OBVIOUSLY recognize, I do not post in
the ng's very often. Maybe once a year, if that! :) So forgive me if I'm not
replying to this thread in the "politically correct" spot. :))

I did want to assure you that this matter was taken very seriously and
investigated thoroughly by a number of people including myself. I spent
hours last night examining 4 separate chat logs of the said instance at
AWGate. I then cut and pasted various random excerpts from the logs to check
for any inconsistencies. I compared the log submitted by Internal Affairs
with 3 other logs of people who were contacted individually and asked to
submit them. Other than the individual whispers that varied from the logs
submitted, all 3 of the other logs were identical. However, the 4th log
submitted by Internal Affairs differed greatly from the other 3, in any text
referencing "gays".

In the second instance where Internal Affairs claims he was ejected
unfairly, the eject logs were examined, and evidence there fully supports
the GK ejecting him. This was discussed personally with Internal Affairs,
and I believe he understands fully why he was ejected.

On one hand, I am sorry that this situation ever took place. On the other
hand, I'm looking at it as a valuable opportunity for learning on all sides.
:) It has given me the opportunity to remind the Gate Keepers of their
precarious position and responsibility, and that they need to choose their
words wisely...... as we all should.

So "I love craig" has been trouble all along? I knew it was strange that
flynn1 (although we've only met in the gate a few instances) would be so
homophobic. It didn't seem to fit. These guys seem like all trouble and
manipulators, but thank god for logs and the truth.

Sympathy never circulates in the AW community for people like this. (i don't
think it really circulates to ANY body in the community, but less so to the
bad and lying ones. :))

Thanks for looking into this, Mountain Myst and Facter. In the threads
related to this subject, a lot was said. Some people argued that stating
that you are gay or asking if gays are allowed had explicit sexual content
and should be forbidden. I argued against that. Could AWCI state their
opinion on this issue? I think it is important for all of us, not only for
the Gatekeeprs.

Could we possibly see one of those logs? I want to see how out of context
it was, in the case of awteen there was like one line changed.

pleeeeeease :)

[View Quote] Sorry, you would have to ask Mountain Myst, but, I would think that the
matter is pretty much closed - no sense in dragging it out.. IA has admitted
his fault in a portion of the incident, and we dont really need witch hunts
against citizens do we ?

Let it lay....I am getting a response to Xela's question though.

Thank you Facter for posting for me. :) And I do agree that posting the log
discrepancies at this point would offer nothing positive. As I mentioned
earlier, hopefully all parties learned a valuable lesson.

Would it have been possible for "I Love Craig" to find out or reasonably
conclude whether
or not AWGate accepted homosexuals before feeling the need to ask? I
realize that he could
not whisper there so the information that he can whisper "help" does him
no good but he is
also directed like this:
" For the Conduct Guidelines please say World Rules or see
http://www.activeworlds.com/conduct.html " If homosexuals were not
allowed by AW I think it
might be stated, as age requirements are in Gor worlds. If he
disregarded the welcome
message's suggestion then I think he was trying to get personal feelings
about it from anyone
who heard him and anything beyond what the guidelines say would also be
personal
interpretation, not AW's guidelines specifically. If "I Love Craig" was
really wanting to know what part of himself it was important to reveal
at AWGate, he could have "listened" for just a short time to see how
many people felt the need to state personal details upon entering or if
personal details were required. It seemed fairly obvious to me that the
information was not solicited. It also seems to me that those appointed
to monitor a world, in
this case AWGate, are only human and at some point have to call them as
they see them, and
to some human minds it could have appeared (even in the altered
conversation) that because
the question was asked it may have been a lead in to chat of that
nature. Why else would a
person state a particular detail, any detail, about himself?

I don't mean to come off rude, but I believe you have some kind of learning
disability by now. I wasn't the one who was ejected. It was my friend from
school who I told AW about to him. I was simply helping him out by posting
the logs on the NG's. I am not going to bother wasting my time explaining it
to you any further so here I what I wrote to the Gatekeepers today. God, so
this is what I get for helping friends out? Hummliation?

"To whom it may concern,

Like I stated above, I am sorry about what happened on the 10th of
February. I told my friend awhile ago about AW and he sounded very
interested so he gave it a try. This is the same friend who used the name "I
love Craig" in AWGate that day. I have known him for about 3 years now which
is when we both began at the high school so we were pretty good friends up
until this point. He also happens to be gay in real life and he is very open
about it. On Saturday, which is when this all occurred, according to the
logs, my friend entered the gate and asked if it was alright if gays were
allowed to chat there. He was then ejected for what ever reason. Being very
upset over this, he e-mailed me what I thought were the real chat logs and
asked if I could help him out. Being the good friend to him that I always
have been in the past, and since he obviously couldn't post to the
newsgroups since he was just a tourist, I though I could help him out by
posting the logs on there for him. Little did I know that these logs were
intentionally altered to make it sound like the gatekeepers were the real
bad guys. The only thing in the e-mail he told me he edited were the
comments made by other tourists that didn't relate to the subject at all. I
am very mad at him right now for what he did to my reputation. I haven't
talked to him since and I don't intend to anymore in the future.
Again, I am very sorry about all this. I was just trying to help my
friend out by doing what I thought was the right thing. Next time, I will
think second about helping out any of my friends online. I am sorry for
creating such an uproar in the community lately and wish I can help you out
in some other way to make up for it. If there is anything you need, please
don't hesitate to telegram me on AW.
Thanks.

[View Quote] That statement there refers to your subsequent ejection - not your friends.

As I said before, the situation is resolved, and it has been amicably ended,
I really dont think it needs to be dragged out into something its not - and
it is not a case of discrimination from all accounts, several staff members
here have investigated it, and the facts have been confirmed as to what
happened.

Case closed. Let it lie my friend, there are no bigots here - as a firm,
personal supporter of gay civil rights, I'll tell you right now that as
long as I have any influence in investigating this kind of thing, then it
will be pursued to the fullest.

Please do not feel humiliated in any way, there was an error, you have
atoned, you have told your side of the story, and indeed posted the letter
that you wrote to the GK's to this, a public newsgroup. A very mature, and
reasonable response.

Also, you are to be commended for standing up to what you believed in in the
first place - and that was that you believed that someone was discriminated
against by another individual, merely for their sexual orientation. It is
not fault of yours that you were mis-lead, and that kind of thing can happen
to anyone - as anyone else here, will also tell you.

For standing up like that, you have my respect completely - and I am sure I
speak for almost everyone else here in this newsgroup in that.

Take care

Internal Affairs and I have sorted through this issue via email exchange
this evening. In trying to be concise and reply to the 2 separate instances
in one post, I inadvertently seemed to blur the lines between the 2. My bad.
:) Thank you for your apology to the Gate Keepers.
