This is the graphics card in a Compaq laptop I am considering. I am
worried that the 8M will be totally inadequate for AW version 3. Has anyone
tried this card successfully (or any other laptop) with AW version 3? I
know Dell has an nVidia based laptop with 32M but I would rather go with
Compaq if I can get away with it.

spend the extra money dell has dang good service compared to compaqs both
are good lts though.
also rember lts are not realy that upgradeable ram yes hd yes cpu yes any
thing else nope.
buy the best you can aford that way you wont be totaly obsolete in 6 months

I have one of these chips in my Sony SR-17 with 700mhz, 128ram and it works
fine. No noticeable lag or anything.
