Hey All!

I was curious if anyone could tell me their setup with worlds they host
(connection speed, computer speeds, etc). Also, how much it costs you a
month and how much you make would be great. I am possibly interested in
starting a hosting type company but I am just interested in seeing other
people's ideas :) Thanks.

Happy Holiday :)

i host worlds for free, on a 24/7 1.0 MB a sec connection, and 24/7 tech
support via e-mail....
I may charge a 10 dollar set up fee, and then 50 a year, when i get my new
duel prossor server..

Hello DJ Party,

I have the following set-up:

A Sun Microsystems Cobalt RaQ4i Linux Server (450MHz RISC CPU, 256MB DRAM,
20GB HDD, Dual Ethernet Ports , External SCSI Port) as the world server,
which I host 3 worlds on.

A PIII 600MHz system, 384 MB SDRAM, two 20GB HDD's Running Windows 2000
Server as my IIS server, which I host the object paths on.

Enhanced DSL with 5 static IP's at 1.5 Mbps.

LinkSys EZXS88W - EtherFast 8-Port 10/100 Switch

I do this as a hobby, I am a System Administrator in RL, so I have had a
home network for a while. I do not charge my friends for hosting their
worlds or object paths, and do not think I would want to get into the
"business" of world hosting.

Your cost are going to vary, depending on location. PacBell has a decent
rate on 5 static IP's in my area. Expect to pay $50.00 to $75.00 per month
for Enhanced DSL.

Equipment cost are approximately: $3,300 for the Cobalt, $900.00 for PC,
$90.00 for switch, and maybe another $100 or so for misc. items (KVM switch,
cables, etc.)

I hope I answered some of your questions.

Good luck :)

As far as I know, the current AW servers and most, if not all, bots do
NOT support dual processors. This may change in the upcoming AW 3.1 or
later version, however.

i know :)
But my web server, FTP server, telnet server, will all run faster, thus,
leaving more speed for the world server(s)....

If you have several servers running, it will help. Multiple CPU's will only
help a single program if it has multiple threads, but nothing prevents you
from running that program more than once.
