3.4 bug, facers disappearing (General Discussion)
3.4 bug, facers disappearing // General DiscussionferruccioJul 6, 2003, 9:04pm
I think facers are sprites, right? anyway, at certain angles, especially
near the edge of my 3d window, sprites just disappear. I am using hardware d3d 8 with hardware T & L. Are other people having this problem? Has anyone been able to fix this? ubermonkeyJul 6, 2003, 9:20pm
I also experience this at certain angles (though never the same angles...)

I have this problem. It seems where there are too many sprites in your
visibility, some disappear. I have a Geforce 4 440mx. -- - Syntax - http://www.swcity.net http://forum.swcity.net [View Quote] .duo.Jul 7, 2003, 9:03am
Yup me too. Also light seems to not work at certain angles and positions.

Go to Options>>Settings>>Chat and there should be a label saying 'Fully
render the *Box with 20* nearest avatars' Change 20 to a higher number and your problem should be eliminated... unless this is happening outside crowded areas. I win! See my post in response to syntax, that's where I explain how to fix it.

It could be a problem with a short clipping plane. Short clipping planes will cut things out at certain angles because of their straight-edged nature.
--------------------------- Obj A Obj B You Now rotate your position a few degrees to the right and Obj B gets cut out of the scene. Facers are especially susceptible to this phenomenon because they rotate to face the camera and are two-dimensional. If this is happening in your world, try increasing the max fog limit in World Features (also the clipping plane) to 400 or above. 400 meters was the default clipping plane in 3.3, and most users are comfortable with it. The max clipping plane is around 1200 meters, but you should be forewarned that increasing the clipping plane will reduce Z-buffer accuracy. If that doesn't help, send a bug report including the details you mentioned here to devteam at activeworlds.com ferruccioJul 7, 2003, 6:48pm
This is happening outside crowded areas, and I am full rendering the nearest
50 avatars (like there will ever be a time when that many people will be withen 200m radius again, except for maybe awgate), but the sprites are still disappearing. ferruccioJul 7, 2003, 6:49pm
well unfortunately in 3.3 the facers aren't disappearing. is this only a
problem found in 3.4? (this problem is happening in AW) |
