Hey People :O)

ok.... here's a good one..... WAY off topic ;O)
anyone out there do any map building for the Quake series of games ?? What
i'm wondering is, is there an EASY way to extract the textures and the .MAP
file from the .BSP file ?? I've been toying with the stuff lately and none
of the programs I've come across have been able to... Granted, I'm
certainly no expert on this stuff, but it looks like fun and I wanna play,
but I'm too dumb still ;O)

Any help would be wonderful..... thanks :O)

Plugging the phrase "Quake map editor" into Google pulls up roughly 50,000
semi-relebant hits LOL...I can see where it might be difficult to sift thru
all that :D

I haven't played with Quake stuff at all, but I'm sure there's *something*
to fit the bill *somewhere*...it's just going to be a question of narrowing
down the field. Have you thought about posting on any of the message boards
at various Quake sites, and maybe asking what the folks are using for their
editing? I think that'd be my first stop at this point. But running through
the top 20 or 30 hits on the Google search should also yield some good info.

Good luck! :-)

Try the Quark editor, there are plug-ins that allow you to un-pak bsp files
and extract their .map files as well as many other compressed types of game
files.

search for quark on google.

Greetings:)

of course, decompiling and extracting the BSP of the delivered Quake
files is against the user agreement that you accepted and a no no..
but, for stuff that you have written and perhaps lost the source for,
and you wish to extract the BSP from, you may try

http://www.u-238.net/u238/downloads/mapmaking/winbspc12.zip

I seem to remember (been a long time now) that this was what I used to
recover some home built maps:)

I don't think that works with Q3, but I may be wrong.

Hope this helps

Moria

Moria..... thanks for the lead, it worked for Q3 .bsp files, but it only
extracts the .map file...... not the textures... which is what i was
interested in seeing..... i wanted to try my hand at retexturing a map......
seems everything i try either only does the map, or wont work on Q3
files...... :O/

Thanks again
JB
