- that despite many Americans' impressions of their own country as the =
most moral, humanitarian, democratically free nation on earth, the facts =
simply do not back up that impression, because on a per capita basis, =
the U.S. locks up more people in prisons (not just jails) for =
non-violent crimes than any nation on earth, despite the impression that =
we are the "Land of the Free",
- that our system of criminal "justice" is obviously not working, since =
those numbers have continued to escalate,
- that despite being given the facts and figures, many Americans can =
simply NOT connect the facts and figures to the reality of the =
situation.
That's what it means.
