Wouldn't having the rotate in all three dimensions idea require a increase in the cell data
limit so things would not get messed up? Also would avatars be able to rotate in all three
dimensions? (hmmmm, going upside down in a tunnel :D )... just wondering...
Sep 30, 2001, 11:15am
The page that goes with each of the features does state that. :)) It didn't
say anything about avatars, but I assume this is for objects only. We don't
want trampolining and bouncy avatars too. I voted for the feature, I've been
quite frustrated not being able to fully rotate some of those objects. lol.

I voted for rotating in all 3 dimensions, also. I think custom avatars is
way too much trouble for very little improvement, I think there are much
more important things to add.
And on that note, why isn't shared events on the list? I think this would
be one of the biggest things to add to the AW browser, especially if it's
headed in a more game-oriented direction. I don't see how it would be
incredibly difficult, as the SDK already supports it... The browser would
just have to use it. All I think that would have to be added is some code
to reduce lag, so that people who are running around clicking on 5000
objects don't lag the whole area... Opinions, anyone?
Sep 30, 2001, 1:13pm
I suggested that through the suggestion box to add to the voting, but
I got a 404 error with the suggestion box form, so I doubt Roland
received it - I don't know how else I would go about sending that
in....

It is interesting to note that the most voted for feature on the site
involves something completely unrelated to 3d worlds - the ability to
hide the contact list checkmark. Whereas people could have chosen
custom avatars, rotation in 3 dimensions, scaling, or anything else,
they choose a simple feature that's available in most instant
messaging programs.
Just something to point out.......

Lots of paranoid people in AW, I guess....
Frankly, I didn't bother voting for hiding the checkmark because you can
create the same effect if you're on a modem by releasing and renewing
your IP (using winipcfg) while in AW. Doing so will wipe out your
checkmark. (and you won't receive any telegrams either!)
Still, judging from how a lot of the features you can vote for are
inter-related, I suspect that we're going to be seeing a *major*
reworking of the telegram/contacts system in 3.3

I hope so. In my opinion, the part of AW that's most behind the times is
the telegrams/contact system. Of course, a "saved state" system wouldn't be
bad either....

I'm using a modem (using windows 2000) and I've never been able to reproduce
this. It keeps coming up with
Error: No adapters bound to TCP/IP are enabled for DHCP
I assume this "ghost" mode is where every object (except yours) you right
click on comes out as <not a citizen> in the object properties dialog,
Additionally when you try and send telegrams and when you go in to the
citizen properties, it presents a "reason 31"
If that's the case, I've been able to reproduce this on some occasions by
locking my connection temporary via ZoneAlarm.
If I could figure out how to do this, I will be able to finally get some
personal time to myself and get away from all these people who think it's
their god given right for me to build for them, flood me with telegrams
that contain "Build this for me NOW!" "When are you going to finish this
house for me?!" and flooding me with the same telegrams over and over
"Please,Build in my town, Please Please Please....I've only got X number of
citizens".
This of course doesn't mean I don't like building for others, Just the
people who repeatedly bug me each time I'm online.

Yup, that's "ghost" mode all right. No checkmark, no telegrams, and
<NAC>'s everywhere you look. Unfortunately, it doesn't block telegrams
entirely, since once you reconnect, it'll send you all the tgrams that
were sent to you while you were in "ghost" mode. But at least it's
temporary solitude...

3 way rotate is what I have been waiting for! Finally I can make an object
rotated just the way I like it without having to use rotate! I CAN ROTATE
THINGS IN AW NOW! WOOOOHOOOO!!!
*ahem* anyways, that would help for those stealth ships I've been trying to
get working on.
