I think improved collision detection is really needed. If I'm correct, the
current model works by checking all objects in view. Very bad!! Instead,
it should only check collision with objects that are close by, by excluding
those whose distance is greater than the maximum X/Z extent of the object +
maximum X/Z extent of the avatar. Comments welcome!

I seem to remember having an extensive conversation with chrispeg about
this;

It checks the bounding box first, and if true it checks the polygon mesh.
