AW Should Mail World Owners of World Server Updates (Wishlist)
AW Should Mail World Owners of World Server Updates // WishlistanduinJan 15, 2006, 12:35am
Or... The world admin tool should automatically check for server
updates. Best Regards, Anduin (317281) -- Immigrated Monday, May 8th 2000 DreamCty World Coming Soon! (http://community.dreamcities.net) jermeJan 15, 2006, 2:16am
It's been requested... many...many... times...
A simple mailing list (see the GNU Mailman project - http://sourceforge.net/projects/mailman) would suffice. Let people sign up, and then the developers could take five minutes to send an e-mail to the list and let everyone know. What's so difficult, i don't understand? -Jeremy [View Quote] talisanJan 15, 2006, 2:17am
Certainly would be a nice idea. I just checked the website, and I do have
the current server running, however noticed something else... the admin.exe tool is build 16 that comes with build 69 of the server, but you can also download build 17 seperately. I can't tell the difference between the two admin tools however except that build 16 is 76,800 bytes and last modified Wednesday, June 16, 2004, 5:59:14 PM and that build 17 is 102,400 bytes and last modified Saturday, March 26, 2005, 2:12:08 AM. <--- looks like some late night programming. I was hoping my "wishlist" items had been added before I ever asked... since we're talking about a 25k increase. Oh well. :) [View Quote] smadminJan 15, 2006, 9:55am
They don't even email universe owners, let alone users in their own system
yet there is a email address field on each world server license that has to be filled in to add the license. [View Quote] talisanJan 15, 2006, 10:54pm
Well, I'm hoping... that someone working for AWI still reads these posts....
and ... well, adds these easy little tweaks to their to-do/future/wishlist. When it comes to uni's, if I read about the one time charges correctly, any major upgrades would involve an upgrade fee, I would assume that emails would be sent out to all the uni owners to be informed of the next major upgrade to 4.1, etc. ... for the very least it could potentially bring in new income. Now, I've been running a world server off and on for the last 6 years. I definitely recall getting email from AWI every month... at least the newsletter... that stopped... and I also remember getting some emails about server updates... especially about the server updates that they wanted to require an upgrade to because of security issues. But you know, with limited staff, activities at AWI probably had to be reduced. Only so much a handful of people can do I suppose. Now... another wishlist item could be that when the server is restarted, it's build/version number be compared to a number on the uni which could then popup a notice that there is a newer version available. Same for the admin tool. I'm sure it's doable, but maybe not profitable timewise. [View Quote] |
