Something very useful and practicle for Activeworlds regarding pictures,
would be to have direct access from personal pc to AW. I think this would be
much easier then uploading a picture to the ftp object path and then
downloading it for use in the world. A lot of websites access your pc for
photos and upload from there to the website for viewing....why can this not
be done for AW? Maybe someone out there knows whether or not this is
achievable

Achievable - no, AW does not have its own FTP features, and (from very tight
sources of information, of course) is not going to any time soon.
However, an almost-as-good workaround would be to make (or have someone else
make) a path-specific webpage with a password and browse button to upload
files directly to the OP

Simple answer
The AW Engine requires a normal website for the objects, pictures and sounds
to work properly.
Even if you do have a web setting on your personal PC,
unless you leave it on AND on the internet 24/7 people will not get the
pictures
when your PC is off or even offline.
This is a limitation of the internet more than a limitation of the AW
Engine.
