Falling Snow around Christmas in AWGate // WishlistkennethDec 3, 2004, 11:26pm
I think it was last year or the year before, they had falling snow
everywhere in AWGate around Christmas. It was so coooooool. :) Can we have it again? Maybe for a week or 2 this time. Thanks, Kenneth --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Wonderful and warm? How about stinkin' hot. that's a good thing though,
that 5.5% alcohol goes down well in that 40+ Celsius temperature. Yours Sincerely, Samuël ML Lison -- DreamCities.net - A Community for All! lol I went to Australia last (summer for the US -- winter for them) and it
was about 21°C and they were all complaining it was cold and I was walking around in short sleeves and shorts. Was pretty funny though. They were like wait untill the summer here it gets to be about 40+ and I'm like ........ it gets to be about 40+ where I live during the summer too... Australia is soooooooo uber. I loved it a lot. It looks cool, the people are great, and Sydney is like... the cleanest city I've ever been to. (Besides Montreal, Canada) Anyways I went a little off topic. I liked the gate last year with the snow. It's a cool change from the same old gate. If they're not going to make it snow, at least re-make the gate to a christmassy theme of some sort. [View Quote] tart sugarDec 4, 2004, 3:52pm
Yes, very pretty, but - MAN! - what a DL for the newbies!!!!
and for those without cable. yikes I remember last year's Halloween thunder and lightning storm. THAT was CooL. I wouldn't mind a VR snow storm in The Gate. I'm getting very tired of the real stuff. Tart Sugar [View Quote] sweDec 4, 2004, 9:27pm

Hello Tart Sugar,
What a download? Snow would take one object and one texture, less than 100k. Even on dial up that's a small download. Yours Sincerely, Samuël ML Lison -- DreamCities.net - A Community for All! actually, no O_O you'd need seperate textures and masks for every diffrent
object. and masks are usualy pretty big O_O plus, some of the odd objects thrown around for the christmas/snowwy effect O_O either that, or it's gonna be one tacky looking winter. -SWE [View Quote] sw comitDec 5, 2004, 1:14am
And then I question - what's the big hurry?
So you download an extra minute longer, big deal :P [View Quote] samuel ml lisonDec 5, 2004, 1:31am

Exactly. Worth the wait in my opinion.

if you think mask are pretty big, you are doing something wrong :(
Masks are usually grayscale if you want soft edges, or b&w (1 bit) if you don't mind some jaggies. Then they are zipped and should be in the 10k range or less, usually 2 or 3k Starheart [View Quote] sweDec 5, 2004, 5:46pm
O_O ya but they're .bmps, so they're alot bigger then the textures. and
masks where it's either black or white aren't really that great. especially if you wanna create an ice/frost effect, so the 1 bit ones won't cut it O_O -SWE [View Quote] sweDec 5, 2004, 5:51pm
wait actually O_O never took into account the zipping. never really noticed
how much smaller all masks are after zipping, until now O_O should pay more attention i guess. -SWE [View Quote] strike rapierDec 5, 2004, 10:47pm
ZIP will crush a set of repeated bytes such as 255 255 255 255 255 255 255
255 255 255 255 255 x 100 or so down to near nothing. - MR [View Quote] alexthemartianDec 5, 2004, 11:55pm
also LosAngeles winter too.. snow sucks (unless your snowboarding or
skiing.. which you can do, as well as surfing, both on the same day, in Los Angeles area) [View Quote] colorDec 6, 2004, 12:31am
Snow in AWGate at Christmas would be nice. But keep the snow in the Gate and
don't spread it to AW world like they did once before! I and others build landscapes that are tropical(summer) in nature(flowers, trees, etc), to have a snowy mountain background clashes. We in the North (USA) who recieve snow and cold in Winter go to AW to escape it! If we want to build snowy scenes we can always do that with the building objects or go to a world like Winter to build in snow. But a nice Holiday snowfall in the AWGate would be nice. And having a slow computer(ancient one) myself I can share it might take a little time to download but so does downloading the gate if you dumped your cache too. :) Pamela (CoLor) [View Quote] > I think it was last year or the year before, they had falling snow > everywhere in AWGate around Christmas. > It was so coooooool. :) Can we have it again? O_O i wanna go snow boarding soooo bad! it's sooo fun, especially when you
go fast, try to turn(right turns in my case), and fall backwards! ^_^ -SWE [View Quote] tart sugarDec 8, 2004, 7:43pm
and what to my wondering eyes did appear ... ?
