telephone chat (Wishlist)
telephone chat // Wishlistc pMay 9, 2004, 7:00pm
I have heard rumors of voice chat for AW, so heres an idea i would like to
see implemented... If a user has this on their phon object "Create type=phone" it would makse that obejct into a phone, by this i mean it would allwo users to call eachother. to use it it would be a click on the phone thing and enter the numebr you wish to call, phone numebrs would be citizen numebrs, then if the user had a phone (determiend by ownership block, if not udner persons name one coudl also add owner=cit #) it would call that given person, there would be a sfx that played such as a phone determiend by op "phone.wav". this way it would be liek having telephones in aw, and itd be sort of fun, now you get to the problem of multiple phones well you coudl have extensions else it woudl rign to al lphones udner that given name, onee a user picked upthe phone it would automatically start a vocie chat session between users, then it would be sort of fun sitting there talking, you could hang up the phone by hitting the originating obejct again i guess. and if perchanse they dont do it but they do vocie chat i guess a bot could be used in place of this ey :-) linnMay 9, 2004, 10:49pm

Yes have a telephone at GZ, to save Bandwidth, a MAX of 3 users can be using
the same telephone object... I think instead of citizen numbers, have them enter it AW style! Eg: (978) 499-3237 (The 978499 is the AW offices areacode and subarea code) then 3237 is the first four digits of the citizen number (mines 323710, first four is 3237) Extensions would be cool... Yes but someone might have the number 323708, 323709, etc....so that
might not work out very well. ;P I think CP has a good idea with this phone thing of his...maybe AWI might consider this when they upgrade AW with voicechat. glad to see everyone likes it i think it would be a bit mroe realistic than
just vocie chat, and itd be kind of fun, imagine answering machine bots! they play ur voice XD or tell you who is/tryed to call(ing) you, nice way we can screen out online calls too! and with the phoen sound stored on op, i guess one can have themed phones, in cofmeta you might have a cool futuristic phone, where in awteen,aw, and some others we would use modern phones and cellphones :-) 0_0 and with video streaming one can also add nice pretty pictures like webcams :-) (we can use webcams now with certain software but 100fps is better than 1f/5s lol [View Quote] builderzMay 10, 2004, 6:15pm
In addition to your idea, why not be able to leave or set a prerecorded
voice message when you are AFK or offline? Or better yet, the ability to store short voicemails that get played when you click on them, similar to telegrams, but with voice. I would assume they would all be stored on the AWI server, but I could see hard drive space might be an issue. Builderz http://www.3dhost.net themaskMay 10, 2004, 6:23pm
Short voicemails? I Smell bandwith/HD Space costs ;)

Well, maybe set aside an extra few MB of storage space per citizen for
voicemails and make it so they can't be longer than 30 seconds or something. Also, use some sort of compression to lower their size. With the price increases AWI has made in the past, I'm sure they could at least afford a basic hard drive array/RAID array on eBay. ;) Builderz http://www.3dhost.net [View Quote] > Short voicemails? Yep..
Also, when the person enters the 'Phone Number', someone can record the USA ringing tone (long bluttered beeeeeeep) or the AUS ringing tone (short bluttered beeep) ... Until someone picks up... The answering mashine /voicemail will be good, if a person is too shy, they can have a standard one 'You've reached ActiveWorlds Phone Service, ther number you are calling is not available, please try again later' [View Quote] c pMay 11, 2004, 4:40pm
if not have a sharing folder on each persons comp the way custom avatars
could be allowed also :-), and have the browser access c:\Activeworlds\files\shared and search for Ring.wav, or away.wav :-) [View Quote] |
