The patent for the .gif expired, so AW doesn't have to worry about paying
royalties for .gif support anymore. How about adding the feature? I know
this has been posted before, but that was months ago, I just wanted to bump
it because it seems like a modest request that has been ignored :P The last
time AWI commented about not having .gif support was because of the need to
pay royalties. Now, they don't have to pay it anymore.

Actually, yes, they do read the NGs. Why do you think Uncle ENZO deleted 2
of them?
They also read AWGossip, and when something is posted that AWI doesn't like,
AWI asks the host to ban the forum. grrrrrr

..png support would be more helpful. I don't think you can do as much with a
256-color gif image.

[View Quote] Woot!

But .gif is pretty easy to support. Someone can code it while
they read the intro to the PNG spec. And it supports a transparency
pallette index, which is kind of equivalent to a one bit mask, and
you wouldn't say that single bit masks are not useful.

..tga is pretty easy too and it has alpha channels

Whatever they do, I hope they figure out a way to use the magic
to identify what format the file is and make it so we don't have to
keep filling in the right file extension.
