ability to interact with objects (Wishlist)
ability to interact with objects // WishlistingiebeeNov 11, 2002, 7:06am
Could you make it so that if you touch a couch, or chair, you use it? I
mean, you sit down? or a bed, you lay down, sitting in AW would help the realism alot. It really would be great if an object could be created with an interaction ability, and when "used" it would call up a seq which would make the AV sit, until "unused" Is this impossible to implement? I mean, we don't even have that many actions available to us, nor the ability to sit (on the floor) like you can in almost every RPG game. Is AW cornered by it's architecture in some way? Just wondering, thanks, Ingie Oh, and how can I get a copy of the beta 3.4? Is it available for all to beta test? Thanks again, Love Ingie brockNov 11, 2002, 1:39pm
3.4 is a closed beta test, and yes this would be a nice feature.

It should be possible to implement something like :
bump seq 5 (or activate) or so - but that would require to have this sequence on the same position for all avatars. When the beta isn't beta anymore, a bot could do it with aw_avatar_set() [View Quote] chiklitNov 12, 2002, 4:29am
but the bot would have to keep track of where the object is and also make
sure the av is placed right on the object which is possible but seams to be too much work for what you get out of it -- OS: Windows XP Prof. Build 2600 Processor: AMD Athlon, 1.2GHz Memory: 256MB RAM DirectX Version: DirectX 8.1 (4.08.01.0810) Card: ATI Radeon 7000/VE 32MB (Driver Recent As of 10-14-02) Video Mode: DX7 (w/o T&L) Version: 3.4 Beta Build 442 [View Quote] ananasNov 12, 2002, 6:15am
Keeping track of object positions is a standard job that most
programmable bots can do. The objects are usually marked in the action or comment line. The avatar position should be possible with most bots too. [View Quote] j b e l lNov 15, 2002, 3:33pm
This would require one feature that I could see needing, and a great feature
that I have yet to think of: objects with actions that create you to have a certain gesture.. (not neccessarily on the avitars.dat too, so it could be used only when appropriate and not ahve a person sitting in mid air or pedaling as they walk) there could be a "sitting" gesture that the action code of the couch calls the avatar to do.. hmm.. think i'll put this as a seperate post as well.. seems interesting to me :-) [View Quote] j b e l lNov 15, 2002, 3:34pm

Thanks everyone. I can't wait to see 3.4, it sounds like another huge leap
forward, and seems to add a multitude of new options. I can't wait! Ingie [View Quote] technozeusDec 2, 2002, 9:15am
I like that one, but how about an addition to it. Perhaps a choice of sequence by name or number, where any sequence of characters that does not evaluate to a number of an existing sequence would be checked as a name, and if a sequence by that name exists it would be used.
Example, bump seq sit; activate seq fall Yes, there is the question of weather or not you're avatar would be facing the right way to sit on the object, and also weather or not the avatar's sit sequence (if it even had one) would work well with that object, but my experiences so far tell me that most people would learn to use such capabilities in ways that look reaslistic because it simply feels more natural to do so. Perhaps if a .seq extension is added, the name used could even be assumed to represent a sequence file rather than a sequence button name. TechnoZeus [View Quote] |
