Reflections? (Wishlist)
Reflections? // Wishlist
Oct 29, 2002, 7:56pm
This is a post for both the wishlist and the beta NG:
Beta: The reflection of light on the water looks like oil in the water.. why
is this?
Wishlist: Will there ever be TRUE reflections coming from the water, cause
that would be cool.

That would indeed be cool, but unfortunately, that would require a
little thing called raytracing, which is *horrendously*
processor-intensive to compute. It's certainly not the kind of thing you
can compute in a real-time dynamic environment like AW. :-/

So add quantum supercomputers to the wishlist? :)

is that how they did the water effect in the "Funcave" demo on Nvidia's
Website?
cause they have this very nice demo that shows off, their Light engine,
Real-time hardware T&L , and a buncha other things. water in there has very
nice watery look too it's surface,( didn't seem to spike cpu usage either
hehehh

If you take a look at ChatZone 3D their water has reflections that you can
even turn on and off and it seams to have no effect on the frame rate.

Hmmmm I wonder how could this be possible? Though reflections would be cool
though........

Uh, if you want a framerate of .3, then there could be reflections on the
water. I mean, hell, just add in mirrors, volumetric fog, a larger clipping
plane, a fun house, weather, particle systems, better T&L support, dynamic
objects, nurbs, and a few other graphic intensive things, and we'll have a
great AW!

You mean it would increase my frame rate? :)

Umm... not sure if this is correct, but I think they took a screen shot of
the ray-tracing.
