AW need to make it so that you can just add a ", " and add other peoples
names to send telegrams to (or select multiple people from contacts)

Its not useful at all, its counterproductive. I'm sorry your highness, I
wouldn't want you to hurt your fragile hands by right clicking and pasting
in your message. That would be too much work! Listen, I don't want to get
Spam. So, if this isn't implemented, I get less. If it is, I hold you to
blame, and my spoon is very rusty.

and pave the way for mass-telegram spam? almost nobody else wants it,
so it looks like it's never happening.

heheh, I'm kind of sick of listening to you people complain about spam with
every suggestion, I mean, it's aw, a small community of people, you're so
worried about spam that you dont want any features added, these things are
all features of email already, and you get spam in your email, what do you
do? stop it by blocking it, cancelling it, or telling the sender to quit ;)
if such a thing were implemented another thing such as "mass-gram filter"
would also be, or something that stops it in another way, geez, we already
have tgram blocking...

it's a bad idea. it incourages spamming without any real benifit, except
maybe to the sender who is trying to advertise.

I, myself, have thought of this feature before. I ran into a problem a few
times where I wanted to send a telegram to everyone on my list. I was
letting them know that I was going to be away for about 2 weeks. Since I
have about 50 people on my contacts list it was a pretty grueling task. It
would have been much easier if this sort of thing was implemented but I see
a serious problem with it.

It encourages spam and allows just about anyone the ability to send mass
telegrams. I know most people like to think noone on Active Worlds would
send out spam but there really is a large market for this sort of thing.
Infact, people might register just so they can spam everyone with their
information.

Also, if it were to be implemented, I would want something similar to ICQ
where you hit a button that says "Forward" and then a side form pops out
with everyone's name on your contact list allowing you to click the checkbox
beside each name or if you want to send to everyone, just click the "check
all" checkbox.

In a galaxy far far away, known as wishlist, an identify claiming to

If it were to be implemented, I don't wish to have to block telegrams
from people not on my own contacts list...

I would much rather have a feature where I can say, if it's a
multi-part message, or sent to multiple users, I can block them
automatically, without having to worry about it.

Still, like many people here, I dislike the idea.

I think it's just a question of another privacy option,
same as telegrams sent by bots. If the telegrams had a
header information that marks them as mass telegrams
or bot telegrams, it would be easy to add a citizen
option to allow either or none of them.

If the universe server would already check the option
and filter out unwanted telegrams, it would not produce
more traffic.

So if someone really implemented it but would also
implement the options to block the telegrams, you could
use your spoon to stab some people from microsoft.

I guess, not more than 10% of all citizens would allow
receiving mass- or bot-telegrams - so it's still the
question wether it makes sense or not.

good idea, you could just make a setting to block all tgrams sent to
multiple users. To avoid accidentally blocking a tgram that was just meant
for a few people and wasn't spam, though, you might want to have a setting
that made it so that only msgs sent to 'X' number of people or more would be
blocked. That way you can set that to like 15 or 20 and not worry about
getting much spam at all but at the same time get things from people that
are mass-tgraming but not spamming (something you might actually want to
read :-P).

Unfortunately, AW is a small community populated with a number of people who
think they're clever. As usual, it only takes a few idiots to spoil the
whole idea ... and there are plenty of them around in AW.

ok if this was implemented you would have to have a privacy option to block
"multi-grams". if not there would be spammers all over aw

i think a better way to tell people youre afk is to be able to have a "note"
by your name... it ould appear in the contact list so people could read it.
another thing that is a MUST is when someone on your contact list changes
names, his old name appears in red next to the new name (for a certain time
period, or when you click a button or option etc... whichever comes first)

for example, john changes his name to doe.

people who had him on his list would see Doe (John) the (..) would all be
red. people with him on his list could remove the red by bringing up the
popup menu and clicking "remove old name". sound like a good idea?

i thought so :P

Oh just shut up! Some people are so rude here in the newsgroups. You can
politely explain if something is wrong, not threaten to attack someone with
a rusty spoon! What ARE you!?
