"Contact Cleanup" (Wishlist)
"Contact Cleanup" // WishlistlanezeriOct 21, 2001, 3:27pm
Most of the people I know have gone through their contacts sending them all
a message, I was thinking about a button that could be pressed to send a message to all the contacts that said "Lanezeri is cleaning his contact list, please contact him if you wish to stay" or something corny like that. -- Lanezeri Lead Bot Programmer at Stuff-X http://aw.stuff-x.com cozmoOct 21, 2001, 3:52pm
no offense but that's the worst idea i've ever heard....that is EXTREMLY
ANOYING having a telegram like that...i don't respond to them becuase its THEIR decision wether they want me on their list or not...its THEIR contact list not mine [View Quote] lanezeriOct 21, 2001, 7:30pm
Thank you for your opinion.. I think the person on the other end has a right
to have the choice to be on the list tho.. -- Lanezeri Lead Bot Programmer at Stuff-X http://aw.stuff-x.com [View Quote] internal affairsOct 21, 2001, 8:27pm

personally i care if the person wants me on the list or not - its not my
list! the person who is on someone contact list doesn't have the "right" to decide what the person wants to do with their list [View Quote] sentackOct 22, 2001, 11:21am

You guys are seriously no help. Have you anything else to say other
then "This sucks!" Do you think your the only ones with good ideas or something? *Groans* As for this idea, it's not bad but perhaps we need to alter it some. For one thing, maybe the user should have some more information, such as some of the following ideas. 1) Last time online tab - A tab to inform when the user was last online or made visable to this user (If and when ignore/hide/visable flags are added in. They are on Feature Vote.) 2) Last Message sent Tab - Last time we sent a telegraph to someone. Kind of usefull. 3) Notes Tab - Rather silly but potentionaly usefull. 4) Catagories - Originize your friends. Again silly but when it comes ot contacts, I think ICQ. So this would at least give one a lot more information about who they know on thier contact list and what relationship they have with them. Then perhaps a mass mailing to all users in all catagories or just one for update request. The good friends will respond to you, the bad ones (Or idiots like we see around here) Won't. If they don't, then most likely you don't need to know them anyway. How's that? Tony kahOct 22, 2001, 12:59pm
OK thing, but I wouldn't say it's worth cluttering the GUI that looks pretty
OK now with some button when you can do a copy'n'paste nearly just as easily. And I do agree with Cozmo, you're the one that has to choose really, it's not all too much of the contact's business if you have him on your list or not. Sentacks, we are entitled to think that it isn't such a great idea, and Lanezeri is entitled to disagree. Just look at his reply to Cozmo, accepting that we have another opinion. Alright that's true. I myself was getting a bit nasty there. It just
seems every idea out there gets slapped more then anyone tries to come up with a better solution. It's easy to poke out the flaws in an idea then try and come up with more constructive criticism or admit any similar alternative solutions. Sentack sentackOct 23, 2001, 1:14pm

Ya know, you could put some effort into actually trying to be helpfull
instead of a one line complainer. Tony cozmoOct 23, 2001, 3:26pm
and umm....i explained myself before and it was a perfectly logical
explaination of WHY it sucks [View Quote] sentackOct 23, 2001, 4:08pm

You gave an explination of why you wouldn't like that kind of message,
not why it's usless nor any help as to further develop the idea. "Its sucks because I wouldn't like it!" is not what I would call constructive critisim. And what's with this bug in your ass? You can make comments but I can't make any back at you? sw chrisOct 23, 2001, 6:21pm
First problem you'll run into is all the morons out there who will fill up
their contact list with people they don't know and then repeatedly press that button and spam everyone. Second problem is only those who don't understand that people don't care whether they're on a contact list or not send those messages. And most of the time, those types of people are newbies. Reasonable, understandable and acceptable. Plus not one deragitory
comment in the whole thing. He at least brings up some reasonable ideas as to why this could be abuseive. Maybe this was in the mind of those who didn't like the idea but if you don't explain the reasons such as sw chris has done here, then it just sounds like complaints. In any case. Thanks, Good point, well taken. cozmoOct 23, 2001, 8:11pm
thats exactly what i said stupid
i kind of just blew up at him becuase that kind of message is very anoying and its the worst thign you would ever implement [View Quote] lanezeriOct 23, 2001, 8:44pm
No offence people, but shut the hell up.. I don't want to hear your
bickering about it anymore.. My idea was pretty dumb if you think about it.. the next person to say anything of no use is filtered.. -- Lanezeri Degtur Solutions at http://www.degtur.com Stuff-X at http://aw.stuff-x.com [View Quote] cozmoOct 23, 2001, 10:24pm
ok i'll stop, i made my point across already...but filtering me isn't
exactly a way to get me to stop something. It's not like ill say "Noo noo don't filter me please!!!" ananasOct 27, 2001, 1:54pm
The reason why the mass teleport really would suck is :
The bad friends will use it, the good friends don't have a problem to selectively send grams to ppl. who they want to note about something. Enough spam junk in emails and snail mail box, not necessary to have that in AW too. It has been discussed several times and no one with a little experience and serious communications interest in AW will like it I'm sure. It could be acceptable if the mass telegrams had a special header that you can block, a checkbox in the citizen options [ ] accept junk telegrams An even worse idea has been discussed, to enable telegrams sent by bots and, except for very few, no one wanted it as long as it cannot be blocked - maybe eep should add a page for "unwanted features" to his "improvements" page so these discussions don't come up over and over again. You will find that good ideas are discussed serious - like your idea of a history for sent telegrams - it is a feature that many are waiting for. [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ |
