The Contact list should be enlarged to hold many more Citizen's

Since this list is held on the client machine I dont see a problem in why we
cannot increase this to a high limit.

Many thanks

One of the 3.x releases has/will extend it to 200+ I believe, but we can't have it going too far because then the damned social
butterflies who have to be everyone's friend and ask "Who are you" every 20 minutes will nail the universe server every time they
logon and make life a living hell for everyone else.

wrong, bucko! the Client-side version of the Contact List is in contacts.txt
in the directory where aworld.exe resides. If you ever open it, you'll
discover a bunch of numbers. citizen numbers. how do you think you get the
status and name updates, heh? your contact list updates every 30 second or
minute (can't remember), by querying the citnums name and status to the
uniserver. if you'd have 500 names on your CL, and everybody had the same,
and you now have like 300 users online in average, then guess how many
queryings that would be. 300000 every minute/half-minute/whatever. now
you'll be asking where I learnt to count, cuzz 500 x 300 = 150000, right?
well, the citname and status queries are separate, so that would be quite a
big ammount of stress being sent to the server, heh? and as the amount of
users online at all times grow, at the end of the day, your server will say
"this world is evil! buh-bye shitplace!" and collapse... just think of it,
heh...

KAH
PS. don't forget the other queries that are being sent all the time,
either...

A good reason to restart the discussion about charging
name changes. I bet, name updates once per logon would
be sufficiend then. And if someone takes his virtual
identity serious he will not change it everyday.

Gah! Do you ppl not read old posts? we battled this before.. the
uniserver handles the contact lists, and as KAH pointed out the universe
would -DIE- of the tremendous amounts of CL lookups. 200 is the final
limit change, why must you keep track of so many people anyway? i have
enough that my list doesn't have to use scrollbars, and i keep it that
way..

Hi,
Are you sure that the contact list updates the names by querying the
citizen attributes by number? I thought that it was a more event-driven
process, e.g., the uniserver sends your client notification when someone on
your contact list changes their name.

And to think the poor servers at AWCOM are already breaking apart from the
packing tape (I think thats stickier), I mean look at what happened last
year when it broke and we lost AW for 2 weeks (wasn't it that?)

Duct tape is like the force. It binds to the universe [server] and holds it together.

Why would anyone need some many people on their contact list -_-
I clean my list like every few days of name changers (yuck), people who
quit AW, or people who I never talk to anymore. If you have that many
people on your list I'm sure you could do the same =0

200 is the final change ?

When is this going to be implemented ?

And people do need more than 100

What about GateKeepers and PK's ?

Who need to know when all there team members are online etc.

It needs addressing.

PKs have less than 100 members, and m0e is the only one I know of viscious enough to track his prey via the contact list (I've been
there since the day I bought this citizenship). 200 is the final change, and it IS implemented I believe. Make sure you're using the
3.1 browser.

GKs and PKs can use the tool created by I can't remember who that allows you
to rotate contact lists (you can do this by hand as well).
