what did you think about a basic avatar creator ?
i mean , a set of heads(differents forms and skin colors), hairs (short,
long, blond, red, brown, black), arms (small , larges, naked, skin color),
bodys (slims, fats, brawnys), legs(long, short,nakeds, skin color), and
clothes (trousers, Tshirts, shorts, suits, dresses of differents colors),
and perhaps accesories like hats, glasses etc ... . the set will be
provided by the world (for speed improvement and coherence of the avatars)
and every citizen could combine these elements to have a "real" personality
! I think that one of the most boring thing in AW is the fact that you ever
look like someone else ! This could be the solution.

There is a program already written by Moria called AVMaker which does exactly what you describe. I don't know if he made it public or that one belongs to COF now.

COF teased that custom avatars would be coming ever since 2.0 beta, but it's been over a year and still nothing (which doesn't surprise me). Unfortunately, currently, the only way to get a custom avatar is to have some "pull" with the world owner to let you put it in their avatar list and object server. The whole process is just silly.

Objects, textures, and sounds need to be more modular and allowable from ANYWHERE ON THE NET...not just a specific world's object server. This would also reduce the duplication of standard AlphaWorld objects most worlds use anyway, but if they also have custom objects, they need a new object server, thus wasting space for all the original AlphaWorld objects and making AW's cache even larger than it already needs to be (it's bad enough textures are stored in BMP format since RenderWare can't read JPGs). Modularity is the key.
