Mirrors. (Wishlist)
Mirrors. // Wishlistedward sumerfieldJul 11, 1998, 2:17am
It sounds really difficult but is it possible to create a mirror object in
AW. The main reason I ask is because I am trying out different avatars but can't see the faces. I could download them and use rwmod or something but it isn't that important. Edward Sumerfield, esumerfd at msn.com http://members.xoom.com/esumerfd skanderJul 13, 1998, 10:17am
A little course in 3D graphics:
Mirrors would obviously require a reflection effect that is only possible in Phong tracing technique, and still it doesn't work well, or in Ray Trace technique, which makes good reflections. AW uses techniques that are much simpler, and so mirrors are to stay a dream. you could always run AW browser twice on your computer, have your two avatars face each other, so that one could see the other. I haven't tried, but it just might work.... Skander [View Quote] > It sounds really difficult but is it possible to create a mirror object in > AW. When you run the second aw it just brings the first version into focus. You
would have to have two separate installations so that you don't get any cache corruption but even with two separate executables in two separate installation directories it will only run the one program. I don't know if this is a feature of AW or windows. Maybe someone knows how to get around this. Mmm... not exactly
the mirror object could act as a render window inside th render window and the mirror could render all objects in fornt of it until a certain distance that is set is reached and than it will not render objects any further than that trust me I know it will work :) [View Quote] eep²Jul 13, 1998, 7:24pm
It would also halve the framerate.

I guess none of you have ever been to the first Virtual Chat environment
Worlds.Inc produced... If you go to WC (Worlds Chat Gold) as a registered user and teleport into the "Glee" pod... go through the Door into the hallway and look for the room named "Glee". As you enter the room you will see your avatar in a large mirror. Fairly realistic. If you go into the mirror there is a sound of crashing glass and you land in a maze. If you turn around and face the mirror again you do not see you avatar, but you can see anyone that is on the other side viewing their reflection (one way mirror too!). This is not new stuff... very old stuff... it was even there before the release of WC. It is at least as old as AW itself! Later! zer0 groverJul 21, 1998, 11:29pm
Actually, I was in WC before i came to AW! WC was brand new at the time,
too... In fact, i think i remember the update where they added the mirror. That's not really a VR "mirror" tho, zer0- it was just an illusion concocted to look like a mirror. AW can do the same thing, graphical-wize. WC just added the sprite to it, to make you think you saw yourself :-) Unless they added more to it since I've been there, it was never able to show any avatars other than your own... grover [View Quote] > I guess none of you have ever been to the first Virtual Chat environment > Worlds.Inc produced... > > If you go to WC (Worlds Chat Gold) as a registered user and teleport > into the "Glee" pod... go through the Door into the hallway and look for > the room named "Glee". Ha... I remember that room... I thot' my Penguin body (Avatar) was rather dashing at the time... Ya... It's been mentioned before that a mirror was in Worlds Chat long before Alpha... Would be nice if we could have this feature in Alpha too... i'm pretty sure AW was at least in limited beta testing before they put
the mirror in WC... still would be a nice feature tho! but a roving 3D camera might be a better solution? grover [View Quote] > Ha... I remember that room... Anyone else remember that panel behind the maze? If you approached it just
right, you could go into the WC outerspace. Be careful about talking down to your audience, zer0. :)))) grover <steve at synergycorp.com> wrote in article <35B5407C.16C0F27B at synergycorp.com>... > Actually, I was in WC before i came to AW! They was *every* corner, Xav! I remember when we first discovered that...
everyone kept asking how we got outside, hehe grover [View Quote] > Anyone else remember that panel behind the maze? If you approached it just > right, you could go into the WC outerspace.
