Can anyone answer this question, since I am very bad at the math thing, and
figuring Sq meters, or meters... I just bought a PS16 World(250,000 square meters of virtual land) or as my order form reads (500 x 500 meters virtual land). Actually its two questions I have: 1) How many lots would I have if I make it 5 x 5 meters for each lot? 2) How many lots would I have if I make it 10x10 meters for each lot? I have asked many people online, and no one yet has given me the same answer twice. A world owner said that I could get 200 5x5 lots or 100 10x10 lots without roads on it. I am looking just to find out how big the area would be set up on graph paper before adding anything to it like roads, ground zero etc...so I can get an idea of how many plots of land I have to work with to setup the world, and to allow for building etc. Thanks for any and all responses. And 10.000 tiles 5x5 meter. 10x10=100 (one tile) 250.000/100=2.500 I hope I'm correct :) Regards, Björn Mitz Beardo in Active Worlds UVC - United Virtual Communities ICQ-4185626 http://home5.swipnet.se/~w-57902/ Terminated 4 SPAMMERS so far :) ## terri wistiJul 5, 1998, 9:34pm
Hi there Beardo
Thanks for answering my question so promptly. So, if I use 10m tiles and make my lots 6 x 6 tiles, I should get approximately 64 lots, for the 500x500meters of virtual land??? Correct? I am so confused by this meters thing, I never did well with the math stuff in school either, never thought I would need it so much (haha)... >Hi, > >If my math is correct you will have 2.500 tiles of 10x10 meter. if you use 10m (walk029h) tiles, and your lots are 6x6 tiles... and you
have 500x500m of virtual land... hmm... 500x500m = 50 10m's by 50 10m's... 50/6=8 1/3, so 8 1/3 60m's by 8 1/3 60m's... 8 1/3 * 8 1/3 = 69.44444444444 so around ~69 lots by my count. Hi again :)
6x6=36 , 36x100=3600 , 250000/3600=69,444~69 That will be 69 lots for you, if my math is correct :) Terri Wisti skrev i meddelandet <35a0105b.0 at homer>... >Hi there Beardo > >Thanks for answering my question so promptly. as the decimal tipped you off, the 6x6 lots won't break up nicely. You'll have a
number of 60x60m lots, but then you'll have a few odd-size lots, like 120x20m, and an L-shaped lot. If you picked lot sizes that were an even multiple of 500m, it might work out nicer. For instance, you could also get: 100 50x50m (5x5) lots 25 100x100m (10x10) lots 4 250x250m (25x25) lots [View Quote] > Hi again :) > > 6x6=36 , 36x100=3600 , 250000/3600=69,444~69 > > That will be 69 lots for you, if my math is correct :) > > Terri Wisti skrev i meddelandet <35a0105b.0 at homer>... -- _______________________________________________________________ http://www.grovers.com/ ("`-''-/").___..--''"`-.__ steve at synergycorp.com `6_ 6 ) `-. Thanks everyone with the answers. I was using 6x6 minus 1 for roadways
laid out on graph paper...and I come back with 64 total lots, with 15 that are 6x5 and the balance of them are 5x5. So I wasn't too far off.... thank you all so much, I really appreciate it, much, I can see this area will help me intensely since I am totally new at this. My world should be coming soon......I hope. Its called (AFantasy)...aka Fantasy Island. And my handle is Sexy Eyes.....or Terri. [View Quote] ## technozeusJul 6, 1998, 8:51am
Using 60m by 60m lots in a 500m by 500m world, you will have 8 lots by 8
lots (for a total or 64 lots) with 20m left over in each direction. This is not accounting for any roads, so to get your 64 lots, and put a 10 meter road on each edge of each lot, you would have to settle for 5m by 5m lots separated by 10m roads, and leaving 10m unused in each direction... or you could use 70 by 70 meter lots separated by 10 meter roads, which would give you 7 lots by 7 lots for a total of 49 lots, with just enough room left over to have a 10 by 10 road around the whole thing to complete the grid. 3600m lots are a bit small anyway... in my opinion. I'ld go with the 70m by 70m with a 10 meter street, or if you leave the street out in some places, you could join two lots for a 70m by 150m double lot, or join 4 lots for a 150m by 150m quad lot. Hope this helps a little. TechnoZeus [View Quote] ## hoJul 6, 1998, 11:38am
Really so easy question ??

Of course, you really don't need a 10m wide road. I would edit copies of the
road objects and make then 8x8 or even 6x6. A 6m wide street is approx 18 feet. How wide are cars?, about 6 or 7 feet? Paul [View Quote] ## terri wistiJul 7, 1998, 10:39am
Well not all of us are very good at math. I had explained that in my first
letter if you had bothered to notice. If I am not supposed to inquire then whats the purpose of the newsgroup anyway... and if you want to tell me I put it in the wrong area. It was a wish for me!!!!! I would give anything to understand math now, but unfortunately I am lost when it comes to it. It is probably my only fault. Looked like a legitimate question to me, and although I "think" the main
intention behind this newsgroup was to express what we would like to see in future versions of Active Worlds, the question did aim at getting what you wanted out of Active Worlds, and I personally see nothing wrong with it. Anyway, I know it must be embarrassing to announce difficulty in any subject in front of people you don't even know, so congratulations on your bravery at least. If you would like a little help getting better at your math, temegram me in Active Worlds some time, and I'll get back to you and see what I can do to help. Perhaps we can do something about that wish too. :·) TechnoZeus [View Quote] |
