Does such an animal exist, say in .pdf or html format? If so, I'd be
grateful for a link to it. Thanks.

Preston help is available in the program itself by clicking "Help" in the main screen and then clicking on the part of the interface that you need help with.

Preston is kinda out of date; Ima is working on a new one I think; but with
4.1 if he doesnt upgrade it existing prestons will become obsolite.

Do you mean just out of date, or do you mean rendered useless by major
changes in the new protocol, causing all previous versions unusable?

As far as I know, 4.1 will render all bots not compiled using the 4.1 SDK
absolutely unusable.

Any plans for backward compatibility? There are some useful bots out
there that the owners won't ever update anymore

As far as I am aware 4.1 and 3.6 are COMPLETELY incompatable.

This is due to a complete world, universe and protocol rewrite.

So am I with xelagot, but continuation of xelagot in 4.1 is not
garanteed in ANY way. If we manage to overcome the obstacles, which
are not few or easy, great; if not, bad luck. And take into account
that a LOT of older bots (including HamFon's if not updated) will
cease to be operational. New programmers will come with new bots, I
guess, welcome :)

Yep, Preston will be updated for 4.1, and I'm working on a new release which
should be out before 4.1 :)

I'm not sure how many old bots still work in any case, since older SDK
builds are disabled in the current universe. I'm not sure what the oldest
build enabled is.

Well, I mean using bots compiled ages ago in the current 3.6 universe. I
know that a lot of old SDK builds were disabled to phase out the older
encryption used in earlier versions. The protocol in use in 3.6 is
compatible with older versions, but some really old versions are disabled to
be more secure.

Poor newbie VB programmers who cannot program with the SDK wrapper.. They
will be really out of date with the OCX now.

So what kind of new features are being planned for the new preston?

Amazing! So many posts generated by such a simple question. Guess there is
no Preston Manual after all (like Xelagot X1-now, there's a manual {online
help files})! Actually, I'm glad I asked. My simple dumb question
flushed out a lot of good posts about AW SDK 4.1, Preston upgrade, etc., for
which I'm grateful! Now equin0x, why can't newbie VB programmers use the
"SDK wrapper?" Won't a new one accompany AW 4.1? The reason I ask is that
I was recently advised that VB is the best way for newbies to work with the
SDK (Is it too obvious yet that I'm no programmer)?

I ment, I've met a lot of users in AW who are new to Visual Basic itself,
and they've always used the OCX, as they find it easier.

Even thought the OCX became obselete, the users still sacrificed the minor
cloud features which were the only change in one upgrade, and other minor
additions to the other DLL wrappers.

So, if they are still using the OCX, when 4.1 comes along, they will be
forced to use the DLL wrapper.

However, yes, VisualBasic is a good way for new bot programmers to learn. I
won't say that they should start instantly on C++ or anything, as some
people may say.

I learnt VB itself through my bot programming in AW, then moved onto C++.

And in thsi new version tyhere is going to be a data if clause? and
supprot for decimals rather than integerial values RIGHT?

On event; %a.health=0;

misc/say; JOO ARE TEH DED!!!!1111one

PLEASE add that....

also we had a problem with arrays :)

we where working on a donkey hunting game...but the bot takes its data
from the description tag in soem situations and in others from the
create name...

uits very weird like that :(

I'm planning to add branching support, but that probably won't be in the
very next build :) Please e-mail me any information you have about the data
problem.
Thanks,
- Ima
