Bots are best as separate programs. If they where integrated into the
browser then we would have to stay logged in to AW all the time just for
some of up to keep out 24/7 bots running. having the bot in a separate
program like they are now means we don't have to be in AW just to keep the
bots running, saves on PC resources, and on people thinking you rude not
answering telegrams or letting them join you not knowing your sleeping and
just keeping your 24/7 bot running.

And besides, I expect a lot of people have stopped monitoring the general
discussions group because it was getting used for crap. This is a
continuation of a previous thread (which the guy no longer has on his news
reader) ... what's the issue here?

Heyas,

So, no one wants bots to be like plug-ins? It would be interesting, but what
about scripts... Scripts that talk, make you walk around, do actions. This
could come in real handy. Say for example you wish to prepare a speech for a
meeting, you just load the script and off it goes :)

Your script can make your avatar move and do actions as it's doing it, you
can set delays and so forth...

Anyone like that??
I know some online games that allow that....

Ummmm that's pretty much what a bot is ... and you get to be there too.
Part of the idea of naming standard for bots ("[]") is so that people can
see that they are dealing with a non-human avatar. I don't thing that this
courtesy fits with your idea.

Hi Grimble,

No, bots can do a lot more than just talk and do gestures. What if we had a
feature that only allowed us to use the scripting for gestures, moving your
avatar and talking. Nothing else...

Scripting the client is already possible , to a degree , with the windows
scripting host.

That was part of my point ... controlling a "human" avatar in an automated
fashion. People expect to be able to interact with a citizen's avatar. If
you want to script an avatar, then a bot is easily the best option - just
don't use the other features. Either use one of the generic scripted bots or
write a dedicated one.

I don't think its in the AW "ethic" to give people the ability to easily
script the browser - without the use of a third-party utility - and to be
honest, the benefits of controlling the browser remotely are lost on me.
Sorry.
