[View Quote] However, money is actually involved - if they were to take your money which
you payed for x period of y service and then only provided that service for
z time then unless theres a damned good reason you're looking at a form of
fraud.

Explain, in 100 words or less, why it is unrelated.

See: No reference of SL *anywhere* in the thread.
See: Completely unrelated discussion

Quiet down about SL already. You interject whenever you think its even
slightly applicable, and its annoying. No one cares.

Seriously.

That's the problem. Too few people care. This thread topic I mean...
Personally I don't indulge in SL..too much lag and too many "boreans" over
there. But because of the lack of caring and consideration both exhibited in
this thread and by AW in general perhaps the not caring part is what may
make AW go the way of the dinosaur.

I don't like Goreans either, but from my experience they stick to their
own areas.

Or maybe it's because I'm a furry and they don't dare come near the
furry areas. I dunno!

That's the beauty of being in business, Simply state that you reserve the
right to refuse service to anyone at anytime, and here in the US as long as
its not a violation of their civil rights its all good. Why? I can tell you
as a self employed accountant I've encountered people who were not the kind
of people I wanted to deal with. Some was because they didn't keep records
the way I'm used to working with, some were just jerks and not so tolerable
by the standards I set forth when I chose to become self employed, In fact
the main reason I became self employed was so that I could tell some people
to kiss off at will. So far it's allowed me to create a very lucrative and
easy to manage job I actually like.

If it happened to me Id probably be upset as well, but at the same time I
highly doubt if someone gets chucked out permanently it was "for absolutely
nothing". In my tenure as an admin for certain environments I've removed
people for horrible things, some of them, rather then debate whether or not
it was wrong, illegal, or so on, I simply used the reserved clause of "we
reserve the right to refuse service to anyone", however you word it. In many
cases I went far beyond the normal limits of acceptable tolerance to people
who just couldn't fit in. It probably has saved some of the offending
parties a lot of personal embarrassment. I don't know the reasons to it all
on the part of AWI if this has happened, but I'm sure there was a reason.
Many software terms use that exact clause if not one that reserves every
right not expressly stated.

In many ways I see people more and more point fingers left and right, or at
AWI, and in the next breath they say "AW is failing", or "they aren't doing
it right", and so on. Maybe some of the community isn't doing it right. I
guess no one ever considers that. Seems to me whenever someone stands up
saying Unity! someone says, "only if I'm in charge" or "oh no way, I don't
like them", "ill do it better my way" and so on. more and more it seems to
me if anything is "wrong" its that no one can do anything but argue and
compete. Yes, competition is healthy, but self importance is pathetic, and
an argument isn't even that, unless its structured correctly.

My thin dime :P

Chrispeg has too much self importance under his hat to be given the freedom
to ban at will.. Why would he want to ban someone like Heretic from entering
AW? He and Siliconmana decided that because of a personal grudge. Yes,
Bluemaxe, I agree... self-importance is pathetic.

Should just take into account that no one knows the real reason why
anyone was banned. we have theories, but no one really knows, not even
Heretic himself. Maybe he did something which he himself didn't take
note of? but then again, maybe not.

My question tho is, why all of a sudden with the advent of 4.1 did so many
people get banned? Why so many? Is AW really trying so very hard to shoot
themselves in the foot this way?

My guess is that they started a new universe, and decided it's time to
start acting strict about rules, or people they see as possible trouble
makers, or whatever.
Kind of like, with 4.1 it's time to go in another direction or whatever.
just my guess though.

If AW is truly meant to be a community then as a community we should know
who and why people are banned. If it is just to make money then AWI will do
what they please to who they please that their right to run it as they see
fit. The trouble with that state of mind is they will end causing a feeling
of uncertainty and mistrust. Some here have spent years of working and
playing in the program. We have made builds and made many friends, those
things are important to us. In the past history of our world as in present
day there are places where men come in the night and take away people never
to be heard from again by their friends and family. I pray AW will not
follow this course of action but will be opened and honest with it
citizens.

Broken trust is exactly what I'm talking about with this thread. Problem is
it looks like it's gonna get worse before it gets better... if it gets
better at all. Hard to believe they've done this just so they can try to
revamp things for a new release that has more bugs in it than a no tell
motel in newjersey.

Hey, at one point I got banned for supposedly selling illegal universes and
running some sort of international crime ring.

Fact is that AWI rarely investigates any of these things, its just too easy
to push that change citizen options button - and every time its pushed
without proper reason is a time when AWI harms its position. Shooting itself
in the foot so to speak.

People are right, the AW universe is by no means the biggest thing AW has,
the people in it however control what seems like 80% to 90% of all knowledge
and resources attributed to the AW technology, if you go researching what AW
can do you do not find things like the 20 private universes AW is running
off of auth.activeworlds.com they find websites that we own and control.

AW has no media of its own, that means when people get dissillusioned the
people that have made AW (this universe) are also the people who can break
AW because if enough people turn against the company AWI could kiss what
little corporate image they have goodbye, and subsequently any new clients -
thats what you get for 10 years of neglecting marketing etc.

Sorry not to reply earlier, but Insanity, Queen Rett and several others have
been banned.. along with the folks already mentioned in this thread. Sorry I
couldn't answer earlier.. I'm currently juggling my fathers ailing health as
he was diagnosed terminal yesterday. I'll try to answer more completely
later... just can't deal with things just now.
