Microsoft ends support for 98 and Me (hoo-fuckin-ra!)

About damn time, I say. Glad to see they're not even providing updates to it anymore, maybe it'll encourage people stuck in the stone age to upgrade to more modern PCs. I hear so many people complain that they're computer is so old that it can't run XP.
Well all I can say is buy one of those cheap Dells. Thing costs like $500 and is WAY better than your PC running Windows 98. :P

Upgradeing to XP will also make your computer run better and smoother.
Ever since I upgraded to XP, I never had any blue screen errors at all.
It's like XP fixed evry problem 98, 98SE, and ME had in them.

I still have 98 SE on my other pc and it had nothing on it, just 98 SE and
what's funny is, it got a blue screen error and nothing was on it but the
OS.
It was just idleing, so the OS caused it's own problem without the help of
the human error factor lol

I have an HP laptop I never use cuz it has ME installed.
Is it possible to upgrade that to XP and would it be very pricey?

You can install an XP on your laptop is you want.
You just have to meet the system requierments for the OS.
XP Home is a little about $100 USD
XP Pro is about $200 USD

Before you upgrade to it though, you should run the system check program to
see what things on your laptop are not compatable with XP.

Assuming you meet XP's minimum requirements, upgrading the OS will cost
about 90 dollars and some time and patience on your part.... or one of your
tech savvy friends time and patience. What part of the world do you live
in? Any Best Buys, Circuit City's Fry's Electronics, CompUSA's handy nearby?

Windows 95 and 98 have a bigger memory leak than XP has. The more you run
the computer at one time, the more memory you lose and after you wait long
enough, the computer will freeze.

Take a look around the net I bought XP Pro and an XP Home
XP Pro was 89 bucks and XP Home was 59 bucks US...

They dont have the ones I bought anymore but they have kick a** deals...
They are`Dell versions but they came with SP1 and I have not had any trouble
with either version getting liscenced and getting updates automatically.
If your planning XP you should have at least a 233mHz cpu and 128 meg ram
The more power you have the better it will run.
It will run pitafull\y slow but it will run. You are better off at gettin a
Dell cheap one they start at 399 and up OS included.

Hours??? I'm not computer expert, I was super scared when I upgraded to
xp from 98 about a year ago. But it was soooo easy and only took about
an hour, counting time to figure stuff out.

When I installed XP, it took about 2 hours.
And that was with nothing running but the old OS.
Not sure why it took that long, 98 and 98 SE only took about 30 min when I
installed them all them years ago.

Most systems I have to reformat takes about 20-35 minutes to install winXP.
If it's taking longer than that, you might not want to put XP on that
system, lol ;x

Just the $99 or so for the upgrade disk, which you can just about
anywhere that sells office products and/or computers.

You must've installed it on an old computer or installed XP Pro
because usually an XP Home install just takes about an hour. That's
not too long.

I installed W98se fine on my modern machines :-) And they significantly
crash less than my xp installations - only the W2003 computer is
superior to it and a rock solid system, comes even close to my Linux
machines. :-)
It simply depends what you need a computer for, sometimes you might want
an XP system, sometimes W2003 or Linux, and in some cases even W98se.
