and nothing more american than petty oneupsmanship.
I had a nice fun day at the beach with my new boat, sorry if that's not good enough for you. [View Quote] joemanJul 2, 2006, 3:09am
No petty oneupmanship. Just stating the fact that we're lucky enough to
have alcohol and firearms together. -Joe [View Quote] talisanJul 2, 2006, 3:22am
Well, not sure about the rest of the country, but California is very strict
on guns and alcohol, especially in combination... and when each 4th of July comes around you better be in your backyard, because the police are patrolling the neighborhoods just waiting to hear that gun go off. Now, Los Angeles is special, and so is Santa Ana... the police run from these cities during the 4th... because there are too dang many fools firing their guns up into the air... and you never know where these bullets will land... quite possibly right on your head. Makes me wish bullets came down right where they were launched... NM. In every neighborhood where I live, from mountain to beach, fireworks and guns are not permitted to be fired off... period... drink all you want, but keep it to your own private lot. Watch the "professionals" fire off the big ones. Man, I remember when I was a kid and we used to have 4th of July block parties... all the adults would set up their lawn chairs out in the middle of the street, picnic benches and tables, rows of BBQ's, and let the kids fire off all the fireworks and m80's they wanted... bottle rockets, sparklers.... snakes... whatever! Ok, so some fools set hillsides on fire, and some idiots blew off their hands and fingers... why should this spoil everyone elses fun? The good old days! NM. ;) Happy CANADA day! lady nighthawkJul 2, 2006, 6:09am

Did someone say Canadians don't have alcohol & guns? *chuckles*
Some facts... 2002 Statistics: Although it is known fact that the US (200 million firearms) has more firearms per capita than Canada (8 million firearms), it is also known fact that a much higher percentage of Canadians (82%) own firearms than Americans (25%). Another very interesting fact is that the death rates by firearms (murder/suicide/accidental) in the US is almost 'doubled' that of Canada. hmmm Oh yea, and we do celebrate in much the same way here as you do, even on the 4th of July (some are known to party continuously through from July 1st!), Canadians like to party too ehh! And we have the real beer! lol So... is it better or "lucky" to bring your guns to any such celebration to have fun? Besides... boating seems much more fun than shooting something imo ;) Btw... its Stampede time here, if you really want to see what a party is, guns and all, you should see the Calgary Stampede. July 4th celebrations are mere one-nighters compared to 10 days of Calgary Stampede action! And some of those July 1st revellers still haven't stopped! Sure glad I live in the country! *grins* [View Quote] policeJul 8, 2006, 3:35pm

According to this, Canada should have only 9.75 million inhabitants (it has 32.5 million instead), and the US should have as much as 400 million (it has 300 million). |
