Preserving AW History (build 130 included) // Communitysimplaza.netJun 23, 2006, 10:45am
Greetings all
I believe some of you know of a little project i attempted to start a month ago, called AWNet. Some of you know i'm also a complete nut for all things historical about AW, the touching memories and all (Despite only being here since 2003) Well, i've taken Coursework, kneeled him down on the floor and shot him with a double barrel in the face. While i've made a really messy job doing that with a few misfires, its finally out of the way and i'm able to continue with my project. http://awnet.simplaza.net is a mirror service where i've scouted the internet and googled for all sorts of AW Terms and found some treasures. Loads of these treasures of course are either on the Internet archive or are barley going to survive for much longer (XeonBot, being an example) Now, the browsing php system is dead and under construction at the moment. However i'm ready to collect resources and to archive sites to mirror, so people can look at AW through the ages. The point? Nostalgia. Pointless? No, its great to look through the old stuff hidden on the internet and hell there are some great resources that still work, such as objects and programs. Hopefully we can get old bot programmers to 4.1ify any old bots. I'm also mirroring old AW builds, splashes etc, the fun stuff. Maybe if this project is successful, we can get AWI to open up a few old uniservers to look at AW GZ through AW 1.0 Speaking of which: http://toys.simplaza.net/awb130.zip Active Worlds Build 130, back from 1996 when Worlds Inc still managed the Active Worlds product Go on Cryonics, an old AW 1.0 server, just for old times sake =D If you have or know of old sites and files that need mirroring/hosting, email me at simplaza at simplaza.net with the urls or the files attached. Cheers all simplaza.netJun 23, 2006, 10:51am

Gnu,
I have several versions you can have. All of the cache was lost way back when so bleh :( Maybe you can try some 1.0 cache with them? ALPHAWORLD Build 0.39 ALPHAWORLD Build 0.68 ALPHAWORLD Build 0.78 ALPHAWORLD Build 1.18 Given to me by a good friend when I was collecting many AW installers. I've got these, then every main version installer and some beta ones since 2.0 lol. I think I'll upload them all for you if you want. jaguar hahnJun 27, 2006, 7:03pm

I forgot that my server is annoyingly case sensitive:

Can you post the release notes for builds 39 and 78 so I can add them to the AW Wiki?
http://activeworlds.wikia.com/wiki/Release_notes And if you or anyone else has release notes for other missing versions (1-45,51,55,57-63,78,87,89,119,120,131,132,178,199-227), please post them or add them to the wiki. Thanks! [View Quote] |
