scavenger hunt // CommunitycienaJun 15, 2006, 1:15pm
America's scavenger hunt has been postponed untill September or untill AWI
gets their 4.1 act together. Andras said he found a bug that would affect the hunt really bad. Sorry for the inconvenience. It is beyond my controll. And to all the modelers that sent me their donations I will keep them for the hunt and we will still have the hunt. Any cits or worlds anyone has already paid for will be kept for the hunt. I will call AWI and notify them of the postponement. Thank you and I am really sorry. This hunt was schedualed before we knew AWI was going to start 4.1 They really dropped a big bomb on this hunt :( ..... Ciena elykJun 15, 2006, 6:31pm
I don't quite understand why it is necessary to bash AWI for the
postponement here.. the release has effected many different events in different ways - yours is not the only one in ActiveWorlds. Upgrades to the browser is a part of AWI's jobs, they aren't here to schedule upgrades around yours or anyone elses events. I'm not trying to sound mean or anything and I'm sorry that your event won't be able to go as planned, but it was known a few weeks ahead of time when the release would be and every program has their bugs that are eventually worked out. I just don't think it is very fair to bash the company for your event not exactly running on time. I'm sure it will be a great event whenever you have it though. Upgrades are however expected to work, especially after the extreemly long
period of time they took :S If Andras has given the red light to something like this then im willing to bet it must be something pretty messed up. -- - Mark Randall http://www.temporal-solutions.co.uk "We're Systems and Networks..." "It's our job to know..." baroJun 15, 2006, 7:08pm
I had to pretty much delete and re-do my entire world after the last
couple upgrades, but that's the price for out shining progress. Keeps us on our toes! cienaJun 15, 2006, 8:24pm
I did not bash awi. i simply said till they get their act together meaning
till they get everyting fixed. and I had no idea weeks ahead of time they were going to realease it then. no one told me. and we started hiding tings by hand 3 weeks befor the release amd all the notices sent out. i think u r being very harsh here. u wanna see bashing read what some of the other cits have to say. now thats what i call bashing. and my event has cost other people money, as they already payed for the worlds and cits. "Until they get their act together" and "they dropped a bomb on this
event" sounded completely different than "until everything is fixed".. maybe I had just misunderstood the wording. Anyways,I do understand about the prizes, in which most events that take on prize donations involve other cits paying out of their own pockets. However, I'm sure it will be taken care of for you and they will hold off the paid prizes until you have the event. I apologize if I sounded harsh, it wasn't intentional, I think maybe I just misunderstood your wording on a few things :) [View Quote] starheartJun 16, 2006, 2:47pm
should this not be posted in the community group ??
I mean this is not a specific bug report, Starheart [View Quote] cryonicsJun 16, 2006, 5:07pm
The visible radius of avatars and bots in world has changed in 4.1. It is
now a sphere around the avatar's location, unlike in 3.6 where the visual view was represented by a box. This is not a bug and there are no plans to change it. Cryonics [View Quote] andrasJun 16, 2006, 5:36pm
Thanks for the prompt response.
What does it mean in laymen terms: You have a single regular bot at GZ. It can see the objects within the 400x400m square. With the new settings it can see the avatars only at a 200m radius sphere. So: if the avatar stands at 15N 15W, the bot will not see it and will not receive any click notification the avatar made. This is not a bug ...
