I am posting this on behalf of another Cit...

I have bad connection problem in 4.1 and it's cheesing me off to lose
connection to AW server half the time. I'm on a dial-up and yes, it used to
be bad in 3.6 but this is worse. Do you have any idea what I need to do to
fix this problem?

To fix the problem, purchase high-speed internet.

Although it sounds like I'm being mean, its the only way -- AWI won't be
fixing it anytime soon.

What, just getting frequent 'waiting for server' notices? How often is "half
the time"? Does it happen when your busy doing something or just standing
still? My guess is that you might be overloading the connection too much to
keep a steady connection, like if your building too fast. But it could just
be the server having a bad day. It's happened to me and a few others
before.

What world(s) does it occour in? Are you hosting anything? Any other
connection-demanding programs open?

How often does it occour, and is it a simple disconnection for a upto a
minute or so, or is it something you need to restart AW to reconnect?

Furthermore, if the disconnection lasts long enough, please check your
contact list - can you tell me if your cotacts are there, or is it empty?
And could you also tell me if you goto the Login -> Citizen dialog, is there
a "Tourist" button at the bottom, or does it simply have "Login" and
"Cancel" on either side?

This person is a GK. It happens in The Gate for about half of the 2 hour
shift.

find the problem.

So no, they are not hosting The Gate.

That would be about an hour.

Martin at AWI had this to say -

And I'd be very interested in knowing if the contacts list and tourist
button are visible.

I'm sorry. I wasn't clear.
I believe the "half the 2 hour shift" was meant to mean this person
collectively misses half the shift.
They are on dial-up, I know that much.
I will ask to see if the Contact list disappears.

What is the "tourist button"?

When you click Login (on the menu bar), then Citizen, the citizen login
dialog (requests citizen name and password), it will have three buttons at
the bottom; "OK", "Tourist", "Cancel"

Usually when disconnected in such a way, the tourist button is not there, as
it is the default to remove it when universe status is unknown.
