Possible Memory leak Switching 3.6 to 4.1 (Community)
Possible Memory leak Switching 3.6 to 4.1 // CommunitykennethMay 31, 2006, 6:09pm
I don't know if it's my regular RAM or my Video card, but whenever I change
back from 4.1 to 3.6, or from 3.6 to 4.1, my computer slows down dramatically and I can't even open my web browser. I have 512 MB RAM with a 64 MB Video Card. Maybe I should just wait until the official switch-over from 3.6 to 4.1 and not use 4.1 until then, afterall, I did get my "preview". :) -Kenneth tart sugarMay 31, 2006, 6:24pm
Good question.
I uninstalled 4.1 and reinstalled 3.6 and ever since I lag like a Son of a B. I don't even change back and forth. 4.1 is no longer on my PC. [View Quote] kennethMay 31, 2006, 6:30pm
Wow that's worse than me. You should contact support at activeworlds.com about
that one. They should be able to help you. I decided to just reboot the computer whenever I switch AW browsers. -Kenneth [View Quote] sw comitMay 31, 2006, 6:49pm
I had the same problems too around AWgate. However when its working like its
suppose to I notice that 4.1 runs significantly faster than 3.6 (ran some benchmarks between two areas with the same settings). angelicusMay 31, 2006, 7:11pm
Just so people know. I know a lot of people have had this problem, but.....
Get out of AW Gate Everything seems to run fine once you get out of AW gate. The freezing and locking up, seems to be just because everyone hits AW gate when they go back in. As for switching between 3.6 and 4.1, I have the both installed on my machine, in two seperate locations and can switch back and forth no problem. I am running a 3200+ AMD Athlon 64 which runs at 2Ghz with 1.5GB RAM, and a NVIDIA GeForce 6600 with 256RAM. I do know however, that after speak with other people that AW Gate does cause problems in 4.1 but other worlds are fine. From what I have also heard, 3.6 is going to be running for a couple more weeks before the 3.6 universe is shut down. (This is what I have been told, not fact!!!) Anyway, I have also been told that the world server for 4.1 is still in beta version, which is why it is so hard to come by, some people have it some don't. Other Hosts don't want to use it till the bugs are worked out (don't know if there is any bugs). So if you are a world owner, or know a world owner, they are going to have to speak to the person who hosts their worlds. Anyway, I hope this helps. 4.1 itself runs well, although I am not sure AW Gate is ready to have the amount of people it has in there. Please also note, (everyone probably already knows this) AW will only show you a certain amount of users, so if someone doesn't answer you, chances are AW swallowed your words. Kind of funny really, never had that problem until yesterday, when nearly 300 people turned up in the same place. For anyone who is a tourist, you have to wait, 4.1 will get here soon enough, after all, they are shutting down the 3.6 universe, so they have to let everyone have it sooner or later. I just found out that if I turn both browsers off for awhile and then come
back, the problem seems to fix itself. Must be a thing with just my computer or something. -Kenneth [View Quote] angelicusMay 31, 2006, 9:10pm
hmmmm, I am guessing you have done fresh installs of each?
Have you done a disk clean up recently, specially after installing both 3.6 and 4.1 Also make sure you have cleaned out all your temp folders including all the hidden ones, also try emptying you prefetch folder under windows, that sometimes can cause problems. Do a degrag of your machine, and do a registry check also, this could help solve some of those little problems. Do you have a limited amount of space on your machine cause if not, allow AW to download everything and keep it, that way your not downloading from the internet every single time. Just some idea's let me know how it goes. [View Quote] |
