5 days left on world is it worth me renewing? // Communitygoober kingApr 24, 2006, 7:15pm
You must be new here, Bodhi. When has AWI ever been forthcoming about
*anything* they've ever done? It'll get done when it gets done; that's the way it's always been, and that's the way it shall always be. In fact, you should consider yourself lucky that AWI even bothers to cater to our whims at all, as a lot of software companies don't tell you anything about upcoming releases until their already out. Now please, get off that high horse before you hurt yourself. [View Quote] -- Goober King Riding high http://www.gkstudios.net cienaApr 24, 2006, 8:55pm
ely i hope u renew :) i want trees but im gonna wait till u renew :p ely i
think aw has reasons for not saying anything and we dont know what those reasons and it is frustrating not to know. but im sure its for a good reason. like goober said its always been that way so if we love aw we have to be patient for how ever long. but at least we do know theres some cool things comming our way. we just dont know when and neither do they. renew your world and be patient my friend :) we need good modelers like u. All this chatter about "being patient" and what the company "allows us to
know" or "might do now or in the future" is just not applicable to the actual situation. AWI is a business. We are it's customers. Businesses supply a service and customers buy that service. Usually a business will make decisions based on their financial outlook. They act to increase their revenue and outdo the competition. Customers go where their interests are served. A basic aspect of business is that if one place doesn't meet the need, there is always another existing business or an 'up and coming' competitor that will provide for the customer seeking satisfaction. AW is a business partnership. AWI, being the company that offers a goods and we, the citizens, being the customers, who decide to purchase that service. Phrases like " be patient" etc really have no place in a business partnership. It's not a situation where one needs to have faith, patience, charity, and other virtues. It's a business partnership where the sellor provides a service the customer can use. Customers decide, if that service is one they want or if a competitor offers something better. It is a simple case of supply and demand. Not a relationship of spiritual dimensions, where one needs to have faith, hope, patience and charity. Like everyone else, I like AW and enjoy the creativity I can accomplish there. We are customers, not beggers hoping the company notices us and our needs. AW is a company that seeks our funds for their products. Leave the 'dreaming' 'wishing' 'hoping' 'patience' etc for relationships that deal with spirituality, friendships and faith...... our being a customer of AW is a business partnership. I don't see why someone should be admonised to 'be patient', when this is a business relationship. > ely i hope u renew :) i want trees but im gonna wait till u renew :p ely i > think aw has reasons for not saying anything and we dont know what those > reasons and it is frustrating not to know. but im sure its for a good > reason. like goober said its always been that way so if we love aw we have > to be patient for how ever long. but at least we do know theres some cool > things comming our way. we just dont know when and neither do they. renew > your world and be patient my friend :) we need good modelers like u. Dear Hoover,
As a long time customer, nay, business partner in our job of vaccuming my carpet, I have recently heard that your engineering department has been finalising a new hand-held vac. Your official statements about this new vac has listed all its features and you have stated it is currently undergoing quality testing and will be out "soon", but as a partner in your business (I once bought a vac from you!) I demand that you personally take time out of your day to give me detailed progress reports and access to all your internal engineering and R&D info. And what is this "soon" business and your claims that even you don't know when it will be done? This does not meet my impatient self-important demands to be undeservingly and uneedingly over-informed on matters even you do not know. Some of your testing staff have made it clear how the progress on the new vac is coming, but this isn't good enough, I demand that your CEO treat me like his most important share holder and answer my usless 'are we there yet' questions to which I already know the answer to but I'm so overly-emotionaly invested and obsessed with your vacumes that I'm deluded my self into making ridiculous comparisons to business-partners when I'm nothing but the lowliest consumer of your product but I demand attention. I demand this, as a business partner with a dirty floor. cienaApr 25, 2006, 11:48pm
Our money is probably pittance compared to the other businesses they have
going on. Why dont u call them and tell them what u said here. We as readers can't do anything about it. [View Quote] bodhitahApr 26, 2006, 12:35am

For me, Im not complaining at all. I just wait to see what comes up. Any new
innovation is great. Whatever time they accomplish it is theirs to deal with, afterall Im just the consumer and wouldnt be in the know of what goes on behind the scenes. I look forward to seeing what new creative aspects they will add or upgrade. It gets here when it gets here. [View Quote] > call awi and complain to them [View Quote] sw comitApr 27, 2006, 2:28am
Oh yea and as for original topic, I like your world Elysium. One of the
best in AW. If your not feeling like renewing just take a lil' break from AW for awhile till you get the building buzz again ;D [View Quote] heretik anemailadressApr 29, 2006, 9:43pm
yep yep, it is a really nice world there and your modeling talents are great
Elysium, hope you decided to stay, would be a loss to AW. Your disillusion with AWI over thier supposed, alledged forthcoming release is understandable- especially when a lot of effort seems to be given in recent months to recruit more staff for corporate clients; This happened to there.com interestingly enough where the main world was almost shut down as a result of a contract the company got with the milatry. Clearly there is more money to be made from the corporate clients and I am sure that has been taking up AWI's time; fair enough, they are a bussiness but one has to wonder exactly where that leaves us. Well, we know where we are left; in the dark and waiting for them to release the now infamous 4.1. I guess it must sort of exist. Obviously this is being worked on as hard as possible... well by the sounds of it.... whilst working on the other projects whatever they be. And ofcourse with its increased staff numbers- (which one can only draw the conclusion that they are making enough money to support this demand), its obvious that naturally they will need more time to finish 4.1. Ok so I am being sarcastic. I am disillusioned with this too- I look around at the competition and what they offer me as a customer and a client and I can clearly see there is a better deal to be had elsewhere. And why are they are happy to release a buggy beta to other companies or individuals? Seems odd.. most online places do offer an open beta these days even in the early stages, personally I would prefer to see it open and in use and worked on as is- these things are never perfect when they are released anyway. Is beta really that far behind?? isnt stable enough for an open beta?? By now!!?? This program is outdated, let us make no mistakes. It needs to be updated and brought into line with the competition -and fast. And that means in all areas if AWI really wants to compete wiht the big boys. Maybe AWI doesnt want to do that tho. There is something about AW that is very special and maybe it is that it is slightly behind the times and simplistic that makes it works so well as it is- otherwise many of you and I wouldnt still be here. Unfourtuantly tho Ive a feeling that despite all the new and now overly hyped features- most of which have now shown themselves in other universes anyways- It will all be too little, too late. I do hope I am wrong. For Activeworlds to compete in an ever growing market- it has to diversify; fine- do that, but make sure your main customer base is satisfied 1st- and keep them informed as to developments and timescale would be nice too- I dont think that is much to ask in this day and age; pretty much every other company does.. there.com, secondlife, a lot of online games.. it is a basic standard that seems to be lacking in the company customer relations and supprisingly so as there is a real desire from its customer base for such information. It really doesnt take much to keep customers informed with a simple webpage updating them every week or even every month, even if a general, brief overview.. Take a look at all the other online places out there.. take a look at how they deal with this sort of thing and compare them to AWI, its very interesting and reveals a lot, especially when we pay a LOT more than other places. Im content to wait for 4.1 as I said before, no worries, but I dont feel it is asking much for an official update once in a while to install confidence; and by that I dont mean "jokes" like "youre are not getting it yet!! April fool!! hahaha!!" -and yes my sides are still splitting from that one. From all I have heard in recent months- as we all have- It would seem that 4.1 wont be the answer to all of AWI's problems, but it sure would help. Again, I just hope it doesnt turn into too little too late. Just my 10 pennys worth again lol Heretik. [View Quote] |
