Okay, in renderware 3 the format rwx was dumped for the dxf format. Of
course if they reset all the worlds because of this AWI had to add code that
would make it so you could support rwx, otherwise maybe some people would of
been upset and left. So anyways to the question does AW support DXF right
now? I was going to try it the other night, but I got too lazy to zip it and
upload it

If I remember correctly, yes... yes it does. Or at least it did, at one
point.

Pretty sure it only supports RWX and COB.

To my knowledge, only .rwx and .cob files can be used as objects in the AW
browser. And when using a .cob file in your world, make sure and type ".cob"
at the end of the name or it will think it is an ".rwx" file and won't load,
for those that don't have their files registered.

..rwx, .cob, .scn, and .dxf are the file formats supported by AW (.dxf is the
renderware format I believe, the others were added by AW). As someone
pointed out though, you do need to write the file format used at the end of
the object name when it is not .rwx, which is the default file format that
the browser looks for.

I need to correct myself. This is why I shouldn't answer these things in the
morning.

It was pointed out to me that .dxf is an old autocad format...not
renderware. The appropriate extension is .dff (as someone told me, remember
it as "dumb file format") for renderware. I also should note that .rwx is a
renderware format, and that .cob and .scn are Truespace formats that were
added to use in AW. While at one time, long long ago, there was a converter
for .dxf formats, it was not adequate for the job, since .dxf often lacks
critical information such as UV values and has issues with inverting polys.
Sorry for the confusion. Thanks to those that helped me catch my mistakes
;)

Okay... thanks for clearing that out stacee, howvever there is more to the
question. If renderware dumped or doesn't use .rwx as it's main file format
anymore, but uses .dff it's probably much better, right?

I think you are misunderstanding. Renderware did not drop .rwx, nor did AW.
The file formats supported by AW are .rwx, .dff, .cob, and .scn. Someone had
asked about the .dxf file format earlier and that is NOT supported by AW.
Neither .dff or .rwx are better or worse, as far as I know, just different
formats. But, .dff is not used in any other platform besides renderware. On
top of that, .dff is not as easy to work with, which is why .rwx is the main
format used in AW.

Sorry for any confusion. I hope this clears it up.

I have to beg to differ there, as we were told back when 3.3 came out that
one of the reasons it to took so long to release was that version 3 of
renderware had dropped the support for the .rwx format and AWI's programmers
had to manually code the support back in.

Intresting tho how right from version 1.34 of the Renderware API that it
supported shadows, reflections and the ability to attach a camera to a
moving object like in one of the demo's that comes with the API there is a
roller coster you can sit in and ride round on and that was released in
1995.

Crazy me, thought we wanted an answer to original question, not a debate. Me
bad. Don't worry, won't happen again.

Perhaps you, and others, should consult more informed sources before replying next time... I didn't spend years creating
http://tnlc.com/rw/ for the hell of it, you know. Use it.
