This is getting absolutely damned stupid now, let me quote you the signs:
-- quote --
We have had numerous reports of users having Trojans on their computer after
downloading pirated Universes. There are many sites with fake Universes
that have you download their Trojan instead of a real browser. Do not be
victimized by these scams
Once the Trojan is installed they will have full access to your computer and
all your passwords. Remember if it sounds to good to be true it is most
likely a fraud. If you are a victim of such a scam please report it to
pirated at activeworlds.com
-- /quote --
This is bloody rediculous, Active Worlds Inc is basically saying that any
universe (considering a lot of hacked unis are professionally presented)
contain trojans and that they will steal all your passwords.
Its blaitant scaremongering, this wouldent even be allowed in Europe (its
doubtful its allowed in the US) and Active Worlds Inc is going down a hole
that it will never be able to crawl out of here.
I am sure the majority agree.

How about somthing constructive for a change, they have a point telling
people about pirate universes and can't exactly list them by name for
obvious reasons however there is somthing else they could do.
Perhaps there should be a link to a web page that shows all the legal
universe names. That way if its not listed its not legal and should be
avoided
and reported.
After all the browser carries the www.activeworlds.com domain name and
logo providing loads of free advertising for AW which there is no way to
legally change or switch off unless they change the domainname to somthing
non related to activeworlds.com as a parent company selling the technology.
So how about they do a little back to support all the genuine universe
owners who have spent there hard earned cash and prove there all above
board and legal.

Time for AWI to make a webpage showing all legal universes likely to be
encountered:
20 minutes.
Its unfortunate they havent done it, scaremongering is a weak tactic and a
website or some way to check universes would be a brilliant way to stop
their valued customers from being infected by Trojans. :)

A website containing a list of all legal uniservers, what a novel and
excellent idea. Lets hope AWI listens to it. Not only would it provide
a difinitive list of whats legal and what isnt, it would also be a great
tool to find new uniservers out there.
Mauz already has a nice list going (http://www.mauz.info/awworlds.html ,
bottom of the page). One from AWI would be very nice though.

Trojans on computers?
I don't know what these people are thinking, but that isn't where
Trojans go.

Good idea, but God is more likely to listen to an idea than AWI.

The Easter Beagle told me Uncle ENZO was god.

The one at AWGate is even worse, AWI should get sued for claiming that all
these sites are just trojans.
Anyone fancy phoning the BBB? :D

They're talking about the pirated ones. I sincerely doubt any one of those
will raise a stink about what AWI is saying about them.

Quiet right, the Trojans stayed in their city, it was the Greeks who
used the horse to invade. :-)

Yet you think its appropriate for a company to engage in blaitant
scaremongering among their clients to protect their product from a few unis
with 5 or 10 people in them?
AWI has made no effort to say what is legal and what is not, until such time
that they offer assistance, or show PROOF, this can be taken as blaitant
lies, we could go and use words like fraud and such as well, but I will
leave that for someone who is more adventurous than I.

If you want the good stuff, ask Teal for whatever she was using when she
made you CY director... speaking of which, the CYs appear to be deceased
based on comments from the majority of the idle team :)

Ha! Next you'll tell me the easter beagle doesn't really exist :P
How about AW just get it over with and post the following sign:
Attention all users! We just wanted to inform you that the internet is a
scary place - and to help alleviate this problem, we have done a little
research into this "internet" thing and found that all other programs that
are not sanctioned by AW contain trojans, viruses, logic bombs, black
plague, snowcrash, and in some extreme cases have reformatted your hard
drive and installed O/S 2 Warp. Please be sensible and try to avoid this
whole "Internet" thing at all costs, as the Active Worlds universe should be
all you need.
- this would be the ultimate sign at AWGate

Based on what you have just said, the world is a scary place so only shop at
the
store at the end of your street as its all you will ever need.
Some of use like to shop around and get the best value for money and
enjoyable
expirence for our free time. Tho we always do a little home work as cheap is
not always a good thing.
So why not have a simple page just listing what is genuine if Microsoft can
manage it then why not AW?
