It's been an honor and a priviledge.. // CommunitybitmasterMar 13, 2005, 3:22am
... working with Bit.
I was going to give a long speech on this whole thing, but then thought.. Why? Alphabit Phalpha nor anyone else has compensated me for anything and you know why? It's because I did it out of the kindness of my heart for everyone else, and expected nothing in return, that's why. Oh wait.. I lied... I was compensated with kindness and encouragement and respect from Bev and others. The mature people already understand and the ones that can't understand, probably never will. If they do finally understand, then thank you for that. I will clear something up and Imagine kind of mentioned it. (No, Bit did not own the CY's), no one person could claim that. I can say however, that she has asked for the responsibility and it was handed to her by AWI and she did a fantastic job! I then will say, IMHO, she well earned the title and as a token of appreciation, it would be mature of us to let this link remain and remember the good times and the real meaning behind it and what she has done. And for those that feel that they have been short changed. Maybe you should think on a higher plane. For example: I don't feel I need any award to get recognition on something. If I can look at what I have done and I like it and at least one other person can say they like it.. I then feel I have been awarded enough. ;) Ok ok.. I said no long speeches.. so I will end with this.. I applaud you Bev! May you find peace and happiness in your future ventures in RL. Bits PS: Nothing ever changes if nothing ever changes. :) Thanks for that speech. It's nice to hear.
Bit may not be the most diplomatic person in the world, but I think her heart is in the right place. And that's what counts. She's earned her retirement and I think it's time now to look to the future. Not the past. SW Chris [View Quote] alphacentuariMar 15, 2005, 2:57am
And so ends what I would call the highlight of the ActiveWorlds Community.
It is sad to see such traditions ending, but all good things must come to an end. For a few years, since I left, I have been watching the community decline from what it was in March of '98. ActiveWorlds, and the Cy Awards, are part of my childhood now, and will always be. For 3 years, I was honored to help out the AW Community and Bit in it's production, sometimes though I think, for the wrong reasons. There are too few people in this world today like Bit, selflessly working towards the improvement of society through generosity. Most of the time, people do things to the benefit of themselves, and if it happens to benefit someone else, then thats just an added bonus. Through the time I spent with Bit, and the awards, my life has been changed. The "Spirit of the Cy" is with me now and always, and with anyone else as well whose lives she has touched. Even if she dosen't "own" the awards, the spirit is hers, and I hope she continues to spread this spirit in her future ventures, under whatever name. As for traditions, old ones dissappear, but new ones can be forged. Change is inevitable. Perhaps someone will step forward and set a new banner and light the stage lights anew. The community may thrive once again, or may fall into complete disarray, that it up to you. However, few could ever match what AlphaBit created. She is "The Spirit of the Cy" and that spirit is hers, and if this spirit has touched just one person at all, changed one life, such as mine, then all the time and effort in the world is worth it. May the Cys live on in our hearts. Good luck to the people of AW, and all of their future ventures! AlphaCentuari (LilAlpha Phalpha) |
