The Cys Can No Longer Exist // Communityalphabit phalphaMar 12, 2005, 12:37pm
Hey Everyone,
Since our post yesterday, Lady TeaL and I have received an onslaught of negative telegrams regarding the Cys. The Cys have always been a positive thing for the Community, yet are now turning VERY negative on it's departure. The Cys (as The Cys) should and can NOT continue to exist. I have received numerous emails of folks interested in taking them over, but I feel if anyone wants to organize an awards event, it can not be called the Cys. I personally own the Cys, and will be making it a historical rememberance, thus they cannot continue. Please refrain from telegrams any longer to Lady TeaL and myself. Use all that energy to create something new!:) We have been accused in grams of failing, and by gosh that hurts not only our feelings but also our reputation. PLEASE, let's exit on a positive not? The Cys are now a memory as of my post yesterday. Thank you all for understanding this post. Those of you doing the negative (and you know who you are:)...please cease. Thank you:) AlphaBit Phalpha strike rapierMar 12, 2005, 1:36pm
How dare you claim that you own the CY Awards, you were their main
representative, you cannot own a community activity unless you are every single aspect of it, and you are being thick headed and arrogant to think you have the right to destroy a huge portion of this community at your whim. I have seen thousands of hours be spent on the CY awards by hundreds of people and you are now saying you reserve the right to terminate them as you wish? That is an unrespectable, offensive and utterly arrogant descision, hell lets all remember the CY Awards as ending on one persons whim because they had a problem letting anyone else take over, even when they chose that person themself. Hell while we are at it lets take all the statues and rename them alphabit awards, one person, nomatter how good, isnt a community so if you own them the very principle that its a community award is bullshi*t. If its turned negative its because YOU have made them negative. You remember that. Consider your legacy, as of this post, destroyed. - MR [View Quote] matt888Mar 12, 2005, 1:53pm
This is absolutly crazy. AlphaBit Phalpha isn't even supposed to be running
the Cys anymore and now she is shutting them down? I think thats a very greedy act on her part. 1 person can't speak for a full community, you don't own the CYs at all! Nobody owns the CYs and nobody deserves the right to shut them down. I am very disappointed in you, Alpha.. I thought you were more then this. -Matt [View Quote] alphabit phalphaMar 12, 2005, 2:18pm
Ummmm Strike.
If you want to email JP and ask if I own them that is fine. JP gave them to me. I chose to continue with them spending hours along with other folks to make them happen. What I am hearing is that the Cys are becoming a battlefield of ownership. This unfortunately can have no happy ending. You just aren't thinking of the possibilities here. If JP deems anyone ownership that is fine with me, but I will have to hear from JP personally that he choses to do so. Until then the Cys are considered a historical event that exists as memories now. I sincerely wish you all the luck in the world at beginning a new event. Sincerely, AlphaBit Phalpha [View Quote] alphabit phalphaMar 12, 2005, 2:20pm
Matt....I owned them from day one and continue to do so.
Until they are put to rest, they exist as mine. If it's a greedy act that I saw that they continued for 7 years then saw their demise then that's your opinion. Sorry I have dissappointed you and others. Bit [View Quote] colorMar 12, 2005, 2:25pm
AlphaBit Phalpa,
Thank you for your Award Program through the years. I hate to see it go. So many people wished to win one and enjoyed the activity. This program brought a real sense of community to Activeworlds. It inspired creativity and promoted quality developments in all aspect of virtual life and program development. If it were possible it would be great for you to continue your Award Program. There certainly is a lot of feeling for the Cys, from kids growing up on AW dreaming to win one some day, to the dedicated artist working hard to achieve a level worthy of recognition. Your Cy Awards have touched everyone. I can understand your decision to not pass along the CY Award program, so that you maintain its history. This way you retain its past, yet inspire citizens to develop future Award programs with their own names. Ideally it would be great if a way could be found for you to continue the CY Awards yourself. I wish there was a way to do so. There sure is a lot of concern and care for them. Thank You, CoLor [View Quote] > Hey Everyone, > > Since our post yesterday, Lady TeaL and I have received an onslaught of > negative telegrams regarding the Cys. > > The Cys have always been a positive thing for the Community, yet are now > turning VERY negative on it's departure. > > The Cys (as The Cys) should and can NOT continue to exist. > > I have received numerous emails of folks interested in taking them over, but > I feel if anyone wants to organize an awards event, it can not be called the > Cys. > > I personally own the Cys, and will be making it a historical rememberance, > thus they cannot continue. > > Please refrain from telegrams any longer to Lady TeaL and myself. > > Use all that energy to create something new!:) > > We have been accused in grams of failing, and by gosh that hurts not only > our feelings but also our reputation. > > PLEASE, let's exit on a positive not? > > The Cys are now a memory as of my post yesterday. > > Thank you all for understanding this post. > > Those of you doing the negative (and you know who you are:)...please cease. > Thank you:) > > AlphaBit Phalpha strike rapierMar 12, 2005, 2:46pm
Well... on behalf of everyone that has been screwed by this, and all of
those people who have come to me saying how the termination of CY's will extensivly damage this community - I would like to take this opportunity, to award Alphabit Phalpha with the award for: ~~ Community Destruction, 2005 ~~ Congratulations! :) Commiserations to everyone else who ever put their time into these events to see the legacy you built wiped out at the push of a key. .... now in closing of this award ceromony... I will end, with a quote, from the CY Awards website... ------------------------------- We wish to also thank AWCom, Inc. and their staff for initially creating The Cy Awards, and contributing all that is necessary for us to continue this Community event. ------------------------------- Thankyou for comi... wait... wait... this says AWI created the CY Awards??? Even before JP became community liasons... dear god what will the lawyers say! - Mark R As usual I have more information than I should have, I am sure at some point you may share it with the rest of the community and let them in on the real situation. Commi award!!! WTG Bitmeister ! broMar 12, 2005, 3:13pm
Bit said :"I personally own the Cys, and will be making it a historical
remembrance, thus they cannot continue." Normally I refrain from remarks on subjects that mean nothing to me, I will make exception in this on case. Bit you can't have it both ways, it has always been just yours or belongs to the community. Do you have a copy right on the name CY anyway? I like to think people build for the joy of building and not an award buit for those that do like to do that just who did CY belong to anyway? Good time to come clean was it always just yours or did belong to all of AW? Can we still use CY AV ? veraMar 12, 2005, 4:02pm

I am very saddened by this news..
Bev, I know you've always done a great job on the CY's and it was a pleasure working with all of the people involved with the CY's They will truely be missed . Doug / DMC2U [View Quote] orbMar 12, 2005, 5:43pm
How "great" does this sound ?
" There is no way Lady TeaL could possibly do all that is needed to see the Cys through with no training etc. She's fantastic, but not superwoman:)" (quote taken from the horses mouth itself). Haha...Bitster nice job on that cape! 'pukes' The dreaded phone thing has gone out with a big bang ! garnetMar 12, 2005, 9:54pm
Hello Bit, I too am saddened by this news. I do however think I understand
why.. Im think maybe it feels to you like you are passing on a bit of yourself ? You have worked so hard over the years to make this award what it is. I think having the name CY Award was a very clever play on words.. and I think that discovering a new name for a new award could in itself be a contest! I think that instead of fighting you on this that maybe those concerned could be planning a contest to see what the new award will be named.. and what the new Trophy will look like! anyway..Bit.. a big thanks and huggss for all you have done over the years.. and I wish you well.. and I wish the people concerned will think about holding a contest for a new name and Trophy design!!! I bet there are lots of ideas out there!!! :) my 2 cents worth :) Garnet [View Quote] xelagMar 12, 2005, 10:55pm
Dear AlphaBit Phalpha,
Some people think that because they have enjoyed something, this something is theirs. Something similar was starting to happen with the AVVY Awards. My team and those who own the awards name (DigitalSpace and Contact Consortium) decided to suspend these awards for various reasons which are here irrelevant; whether this is a permanent decision or not is still to be seen. No-one is entitled to take over somebody else's project without their consent. All these negative vibes - telegrams, emails, newsgroup postings - about your decision to stop the CY Awards simply confirm that there is a profound lack of respect for other people's work (one of the reasons, by the way, the AVVYs were suspended). I'm sorry to hear the CY's are gone, but so is life. They have served their purpose well. New projects will come, if there is enough initiative and fresh sporting spirit. I would like to thank you, and I'm sure the whole DigitalSpace team agrees with me, for all the efforts and dedication you and your team have done all these years to provide us with this worderfull event. May your spirit of dedication inspire others to start their own projects for the community. Thanks a lot! I am very surprised to be ever hearing something like this. That the
CyAwards ever could belong to an individual. The CyAwards have always been about the 'CommunitY', and rightfully belong to the community. The community has always been the one to vote, to nominate, and to work to make the Cys possible. How can you so easily forget all the members of the Cy team that you have worked so hard to thank? However, I do agree the Cys can no longer exist. So far most of the responses seem to be wanting to keep the Cys up, want to for personnal gain, and the sense of what community is is very blurred. Community will always exist, but not necissarily in the way people want it to be. I know SWCity seems to be interested in creating a replacement for the Cys and quite frankly I find the idea revolting, as it would most definitly limit and deny the awards to be something for the entire community. From what I have seen, the only people that could replace AlphaBit Phalpha have left the community, with the exception of Elyk who is much to busy as is. If someone can clone Elyk, let me know... it would be much appreciated. In the truest essence, the Cy Awards represents the community, and it doesn't really matter if you win or lose, yet rather you become part of this force that has driven people to magnificant pieces of art and selflessness for so long. The heart of the community indeed lays within the CyAwards and what it represents. It doesn't belong to anyone, and should NEVER be associated with a single user or corperation. I feel shamed to ever hear the day when such association would be made. Or have the Cys I remember from the past died long ago? -Tauntaun sw chrisMar 13, 2005, 2:59am

Furthermore, you haven't even seen the details yet! Things have changed a
bit since the initial postings in the forum. The committee system is off the drawing board. :) Revolting... my foot. We hope to be able to work with strike sometime in the future. Chris [View Quote] ferruccioMar 13, 2005, 3:30am
I have a very hard time figuring out why you would disallow the community to
continue the CY awards. To do so implies that somehow you want people to automatically think about you when they think about the CY awards. What's going on here? I think they should remember the community when they think about the CY awards, and should have the complete rights to continue the awards as they see fit. I find it selfish that you wish to prevent the community to try to continue something in Active Worlds that has been going on for years. Is this "progress" to quarantine something that the community cherishes? It's one of the last binding things that this community has. Please tell me that I am not seeing a darker side of you right now, Bit, because that is what I am seeing right now. [View Quote] ferruccioMar 13, 2005, 4:36am
What do you hope to gain out of preventing the community from continuing a
long-standing tradition? [View Quote] strike rapierMar 13, 2005, 2:13pm
>_< From day one, there has been no dispute, whatsoever - Lady Teal would
>remain the CY manager, and yes, she is fantastic, just like Alphabit was in >her effort for the CY's in times gone past... But look at what we are putting together for that, a team thats unrivaled, with more project experience between them than any one person could ever match, Alphabit lacked any faith at all that Teal, and the rest of us could pull it off without being Alphabit clones, but thats not the case. The CY's have been tremendously damaged by what happened, and I hope if I talk to JP during the week we can get something sorted out. - MR [View Quote] linnMar 22, 2005, 8:32am
simple truth is the awards were corrupted by bit and her "army" and now that
a great number of ppl KNOW what it was about, just do NOT want to be part of that sort of thing. [View Quote] |
