AW Radio Station Questions (Community)
AW Radio Station Questions // CommunitybuilderzFeb 8, 2004, 5:22pm
With all of the AW radio stations popping up, I was just wondering if
any of them stream in the mp3PRO format instead of the older MP3 format. I was also wondering if any of the stations plan to up their bitrate or have multiple streams. For example, http://www.di.fm has 24k, 56k, and 96k streams for some of its stations/genres. Also, I'm sure they are aware of it, but any AW radio station needs to pay a licensing fee if they will be broadcasting copyrighted songs that they don't have the permission from the copyright holder to play. If they don't do this, they could be shut down due to legal issues. Builderz http://www.3dhost.net alphabit phalphaFeb 8, 2004, 5:28pm
Not only shut down but also heavily fined:(
I know that when we open our bait shop in Austin, we have to pay a license fee just to broadcast "in-store" even. Also, anyone hosting the radio stations on a server would be liable also, plus any money making ventures sponsoring or hosting the radio stations. BTW...any radio stations that are planning on sponsoring the Cys, could you please share some info that would validate that your stations are legal? I definately don't want the Cys shut down because of doing anything that isn't approved legally. Sorry, that's just the way it has to be:( Thanks! Bit:) [View Quote] alphabit phalphaFeb 8, 2004, 6:30pm

Does this mean that since 1998 any radio station on the net has been paying 7 to 14 cents per person per song? builderzFeb 8, 2004, 6:40pm
Have a look here:

OK ... Does the radio Station itself need to be licensed ???
or the hosting service.? Or both ? We area a NON Profit Station. Run by volunteers... Cheers DMC2U AWVR - DJ [View Quote] builderzFeb 9, 2004, 3:16am
Since I never ran a streaming radio station before, I wouldn't know. I
was doing some basic research in the past about them, and then got discouraged due to all of the legal mumbo jumbo. I suggest you go over the links posted here, read the material, do a Google search, post in some legal forums, or ask a lawyer for the full details. umm whats the diffrence if a shop plays local radio then if it plays
individual songs? its going to be played anyways. i think they (the industry) should not care so much if it is not being sold or used in a movie or something. if they want to play it let them play it. and does a little shop have to play the same as a big gigantic store? I don't think the industry should care so much as the individual
artists. The RIAA act as if a sound recording is this huge effort... not really. The people who put the effort in is the people being recorded - they should decide what rights their fans have.
