Massachusetts's law officials have informed Activeworlds Inc. that the
alleged father of "M A T T" has been served by the District Attorney in
Kentucky with a subpoena to appear before a Grand Jury on Thursday January
14th regarding the charges against his son's activities in Activeworlds.
Currently there are many claims against M A T T, including but not limited
to, credit card fraud, hacking, theft and various postal mail violations.
As many of you have lodged complaints against M A T T and many have recently
been attacked by him please resend all complaints or post new complaints to
ABUSE at ACTIVEWORLDS.COM Please include "ABUSE BY M A T T" in the subject
line. Also, if you feel your complaint is about criminal activity or has
resulted in monetary loss please include details or amounts. If you wish to
file your own charges and need the contact info for the investigators or
even M A T T please include this in your email.

CONGRATULATIONS AWI and friends for the good work in finally nailing this
kid even if it is through his father... I know a lot of hours went into
trying to put a stop to the type of abuses done by MATT...
I hope he gets a bit more than just his patties slapped when his Dad is made
fully aware of just what MATT's activities have brought down on him..

THANKS SO MUCH. ever since my first event got attacked by him and confed,
and the AWTA, iv disliked him. I can see where his anger originally came
from but I mean c'mon if everytime strike rapier made fun of me, or Brock
made fun of me, I went out and stole a cit, i'd have a billion cits right
now, but ya know what, aw isn't fun without people, wow I could buy a
billion cites but id be the only one left here. not to mention its an over
reaction to be blatant about it.

I just wish to say THANK YOU! I have been watching these problems with
growing concern, and I am glad that it is finally taking a turn for the
better. There is not any fun in a community where you have to watch your
back every second or your work will be stolen and or destroyed.
Perhaps now we can make a community that we are all proud of.

I don't know about the US, but in Canada, you can't reveal the
name of a minor no matter what crime they are charged with.
The charges their guardian has to answer should be a matter of
public record though if you know how to find and retreive
such information.

AWI may not be able to release M A T T's name because: a) obvious
pending legal reasons, b) he is probably a minor and certain laws may
not allow the release of his identity at his current age.

That record for the jury trial cannot be the one in regards to M A T T.
The case you posted is going to trial today. M A T Ts case hasn't gone
to trial, there has not even been an arraignment on any charges yet.
The purpose of the grand jury is to determine whether there is
sufficient evidence for indictment against the defendant and whether to
proceed with a criminal case. If the grand jury decides to proceed with
an indictment, then the defendant is formally charged and arrainged.
Afterwhich point he will have the opportunity to enter a plea on the
case. If he enters a plea of guilty or no contest, then the case is set
for sentencing. If a plea of not guilty is entered, then the case is
set for trial. This whole process can take several months and require
many court appearances before the final trial date.
