Does error reporting actually get sent to AWI?
The box that pops up and gives us a choice of sending the error report or not when AW shuts down - illegal error? Would a technical person please answer. Citizens send those reports thinking they are going to AWI. Are they? Is the best policy to continue emailing support at activeworlds.com when there is a problem? bowenSep 3, 2003, 9:52pm

When a program crashes and you click submit error it gets sent to
microsoft for debugging. I think it's goal is to eliminate errors in the kernel, or something weird like that. -- --Bowen-- http://bowen.homelinux.com/sys/ Yeah, it's that good. (Maybe an AW section in the near future?) jstone2004Sep 3, 2003, 10:28pm
*talks in a technical voice* Well, when you click the button named "send" it
doesn't actually go to support at activeworlds.com it instead goes through many other legal, technical, and public relations advisors for the Microsoft corporation. At such a time when it is read, instead of forwarded on to someone else who should care more, it is then deleted. In which case, no one ever knew that your session of AW, the 3D virtual browser, died a horrible and utterly catastrophic system death. So, in the meantime, what you should perhaps do, is electronically message Active Worlds Incorporated the situation of such a crash, and perhaps ask them if something is wrong with the system that your purchased online, or at some random computer appliance and technology store. And, they may not reply, but it is a generally known fact that if such an event occurs, your computer is old and obsolete, and you should simply go and pay 13,000 USD for a computer which is top of the line, but will be obsolete next week, and go through the same routine next week as you have this week. *ends technical voice* LOL if that made any sense to anyone, I will be utterly amazed :D it was mostly just... well... telling you to e-mail AWI instead of clicking send :D J [View Quote] johnSep 5, 2003, 7:04am
The Lady: this is part of windows, not AW. Why do you think it comes up for
other programs? Wud be scary if it went to AW, lol... *writes vb program: Private Sub Form_Load() Err.Raise 13' CALL TYPE MISMATCH End Sub * *compiles & sends 2 the lady* LOL ~John [View Quote] the ladySep 5, 2003, 7:34am
AW needs to clarify (and the ng would be a good way to do that) whether
error reporting sent in this fashion is received and taken action on by them or not. [View Quote] johnSep 5, 2003, 10:32am
AW doesn't need to clarify because its nothing to do with their software.
On Windows 9X/ME (possibly 2K/NT) it did not have this feature and displayed a normal runtime error. WindowsXP however displays a "Send Error Report" message. [View Quote] bowenSep 5, 2003, 4:01pm

Activeworlds cannot keep track of updates to kernels and update their
faqs accordingly. -- --Bowen-- http://bowen.homelinux.com/sys/ Yeah, it's that good. (Maybe an AW section in the near future?) tony mSep 5, 2003, 8:15pm
This error reporting dialog is only specific to Windows XP. It does not exist on anything prior to XP. AWI can do nothing about it, since it's Microsoft-specific.

I think FS9x was the best.

Actually it was pretty stable on my 286, now, if you ran it from DOS in
windows 95... yes. But if you didn't run it while you're in Windows you were pretty much good. Running a program inside another program designed for an operating system spells crashy crash crash. But then, FS95 was a lot less stable than FS9. -- --Bowen-- http://bowen.homelinux.com/sys/ Yeah, it's that good. (Maybe an AW section in the near future?) e n z oSep 8, 2003, 3:42pm
If you get an error and copy the text to AWI in an email to
support at activeworlds.com we get it. E [View Quote] |
