As my cache files remind me there was talk back in the pre release days of
3.3 that one of the main up and coming features if not a mainstream selling
point was Single mesh skinned avatars that would me no showing of joints.

The exciting point about them was that along with the new improved render
engine and support for openGL that Virtual life would look very real and
provide a professional platform for people to create there fantasies and
realities for both Business and games alike.

Don't get me wrong I'm not about to scream and shout as it has not yet
appeared to my knowledge but I would like to know when the afore mentioned
promise will be delivered as I feel I will provide a very rounded package
along with all the new and exciting features in 3.4 and show all the
sceptics that AW is at the forefront rather than supposedly lagging behind
on its last legs about to gasp its last breath (If you take that narrow
minded stand point).

Perhaps it can already do this but no one has been told this to be so or
told how it could be possible. I would really like your input on this matter
ENZO as its been a long time coming and I'm sure I'm not the only one who
has been waiting quietly with baited breath for it to come online so as to
increase the selling point of what I want to create.

Many thanks in advance for taking the time to read this and give a answer.

Everyone else please feel free to add your bit if your also waiting like me
for this super feature to appear.

Skinned avatars would be nice, yes. Not necessarily restricted to single skinned though, as that limits what can be done. I wonder if anyone could talk Active Worlds into hiring Wayne Hogue as an addition to their development team. There's a person who could help shed a little light on the possibility of supporting more formats of objects and avatars. :)

Probly the best one here at AW to ask is Shamus shamus at activeworlds.com or
second Mike, mike at activeworlds.com They have had some long discussions
about our av format and the skin code Hamfon wrote, which currently works
but has some issues. Once we get 3.4 out the door we have every intention
of working out skins and custom avs.

[View Quote] I heard from shamus that it's unusable in the current form it's in; but it's there.

Who in their right mind would want to be on 3.4's beta program? Have you
seen the bugs?

But about the skinned avatars, it's a great idea - I hope that Young Shamus
gets around to implementing it :)

3.4 Is great now, most the bugs are out, those which we find are aptly
fixed.

It takes a very non-selfish attitude to want to help get software theough the beta stage, and I think the fact that so many in our community are willing to make such a sacrafice really says something posative about what we've got going here. :) By the way... still quite a few bugs to work out, but it looks like most of the big ones are gone. Hopefully the smaller ones won't be hiding in hard to find places... but we're working hard on testing it and the development team is doing a great job of communicating with us lately, both listening to our comments and keeping us up to date through the beta newsgroup.

He could have meant many different things by "unusable" depending on the context. If nothing else, it may act as study materials or an example to test variations of, but it may also be almost ready and just not useable in a release version of AW without fixing the bugs first. One way or another, I think it's nice that they know where the code is. :)
