well i am a member of the voc and i can attest that the olympic rings are a
symbol of the games and are owned by the ioc not the usoc. the international
olympic commitee owns the rights to deny any usage of the symbols just to
dispell a rumor the rings are a recent addition but i see no reasion that we
cant create our own symbol. the reason we want to do these games is to bring
the community togheter to have fun. the spirit of the olympics is not in the
compitition but in the coming togheter of the nations of the world to
celebrate our diveristy and our spirit and hope for peace. these value will
not be lost on the olympics but will be upheld. i personally feel that
unless the ioc request us to not use the symbols of these games then we have
nothing to fear. and to tell us we cant hold the voc would be a abomination
aginest the spirit and values this game are embedded with.

Ohhh nooo, they wont let you do that... holding a huge virtual event that
brings people together from many many countrys around the world would take
the attension off of them...

Suffice to say my classics teacher is not to pleased about someone
copyrighting the rings which were created years before the IOC was even
thought of....

I still think that if the hosting is in a non us country they cant do a
thing :)

Perssonaly the press would probably jump all over this...

One last time.... The IOC and the Olympic ring symbol were created by the
same man.

The IOC holds an international copyright recognized by EVERY country that
participates in the Olympic Games.

Ask acting-president and representative of the VOC, I will state the VOC's
official position on this matter.

We have no official position on this issue, except that we will only change
the name of the games and the VOC and change the logo when we come up with
an official position.

We decided it was the host city's responsibility to make the logo. It says
so in the host city application form that you must submit one to be
considered. But I'm considering changing that because no applications have
been received. :(

Hi everyone:

[View Quote] I would Chris because if the host city is on AlphaWorld or one of the many
other public building worlds, then the city can't POSSIBLY create a logo
which can be used (at least not easily).

And with the number of web hosts who don't allow the remote linking to
images stored on a member's own website *on the rise*, it would be
IMPOSSIBLE.

What the VOC needs is a universal logo which can be in JPEG or GIF *and* RWX
formats so then this way, even if the logo can't be seen in the host city
itself, it can at least be seen on the host city's website.

Though having both 2D and 3D versions would be easier. :-)

Just my $.05 worth... :-)

Actualy most isp's these days offer free space. A logo is what, 2-5k ?
Has nothing to do with what world it is in. Seems amazingly easy. And with
SO many worlds in aw it would be even easier to just ask a friend to upload
the logo.
