.... I erased my last sentence because it's rather blunt. *puts diplomatic
face on* When it comes to privacy, people are very touchy. When it comes
to AWC, hell, let's try to put a few dents into it and bash the heck out of
it.

I could rant and rave about all these things for a whole day. In fact, my
mood often shifts between sticking up for AWC and sticking up for its
consumers because of some of the utterly ridiculous and stupid stuff people
from _both_ the company and the users have said. And it's mainly the users
of this program who cause most of this crap. We get offended at the tiniest
thing. The whole freaking situation is entirely and royally screwed up.

Good grief, I read some letter posted by Aine in a Yahoo discussion group.
While I understand her frustrations, some of the things she said about AWC
were simply and plainly false, whether she knew it or not.

Come on folks... are you willing to degenerate into some mob mentality?
The pricing plan isn't _that_ bad. 300 percent? If they kept the price
five bucks you'd be complaining. It's over, it's done with. They
compromised with you and went down half price. Half price! Get over it.

And sticking a bot into a world isn't bad at all, especially since MrGrimm's
bot didn't enter any private worlds. Notification of intentions? You've
been living in a politically correct society for far too long. There is
nothing worth notifying if there are no intentions to be had. How many of
you would get seriously mad at someone bringing a bot into your world if
they weren't an AWC staff member? What's your real problem, here? The fact
that MrGrimm belongs to AWC or privacy?

My God, what would the worlds be like if we had to ask permission to chat?
It's about as stupid an issue as people getting offended at chatting out of
turn. And yes... this really happened. Eep I believe was the offended
party. :)

I guess what I'm trying to say is, look at the facts and only the facts. Do
not extrapolate on them. Do not assume. Take the facts for what they are,
and nothing more or nothing less. But that won't happen any time soon. Why
am I even typing something that will fall on deaf eyes? Welcome to the real
world, Chris.

You make lots of sense, SW... Well said... :o)

(I was going to say "common sense" but sense hasn't been all that common in
the ngs lately... *G*)

*hugs*

FYI folks.. I found this quite interesting... Aine did email Chris.. in
our discussion group.. asking what he felt was false in her original letter
and asking why he had answered in this NG rather than in our discussion
group where her original letter was posted... This was SW Chris'
reply......

IMHO.. Chris.. it would appear that there is a need for you to pick an
opinion and stick to it.

Malka, it appears someone is posing as me, because I do not go by the name
DB Digital. :) In that newsgroup I am known as chrisw10 and I haven't
posted any messages to that group yet. I sent Aine a personal reply back
and I hope that she understands that I wasn't attacking her personally, only
using her letter as a reference to this madness. I agree wholeheartedly
with the intent of her letter, but several examples she used I did not agree
with.

Why would someone do that? and with reference to the exact same issue? If
it were me.. and that were true.. I would be very interested to find out
who... and put a stop to it.. cuz the contradictions there are pretty
clear.. and discrediting...

Yea? Well why don't you two take your own advise and get over it?!
Ever hear of freedom of speech? Ever think perhaps the lady was just being
polite and leaving a message? I am so tired of you mud slinging little
petty nit-pickers I could scream! GET A LIFE!

Well, since we're volunteering personal opinions on people we really have no
experience of, I think you have a lot more to be worried about than
"mud-slinging little petty nit-pickers" as you put it!

Personally, I am tired of this whole "AW are the Anti-Christ" crap, the
complete and utter paranoia that is displayed in here over AW's intentions
and the apparent view that everyone else knows better about how to run AW
than those with substantial material vested interests in its success and
those responsible for the operation of the company. I am tired all the
free-loaders who want something for nothing and clearly view the AW
products/services that they use and participate in with little or no value.
I am tired of seeing people going off on bizarre crusades, concentrating on
their own interests and being overly defensive when their views are
questioned (and that includes impetuous accusations against people!). I am
tired of seeing the same names throwing up endless "AW don't care about the
users" threads and those same names flanning the flames with scaremongering.

Basically I am tired of reading posts from people who are apparently totally
unable to demonstrate that any form of level-headedness, common-sense and
perspective. The should rename this newsgroup to "Nothing better to do than
winge" ... because there's very little of the "Community" left because, in
my view, of the type of people mentioned above.

"Ever hear of freedom of speech?" - Geesh ... like that little concept isn't
shoved down our throats on every contentious subject. If you feel the need,
you just go and hide behind that ideal ... if there's any room left back
there.

Honestly I don't think DBDigital meant anything malicious. Perhaps you've
misconstrued that I am DB Digital? Nothing to worry about though. Cases of
mistaken identity happen all the time.

My domain is skywalkeronline.net, not dbdigitalweb.com. To verify this, you
can do a whois search and my name will be under the contact information for
skywalkeronline.net, and not for dbdigitalweb.com.

Cheers!

Chris, I completely agree with you! I know that AW is not going to
dramatically improve, and I accept that. I know that AW needs to charge more
for its services, and I accept that. And I have renewed.

Honestly, most of my discussion here about AW The Software, and AW The
Culture, and AW The Business, is a post mortem. I am very curious about the
future of online VR. ActiveWorlds is a pioneering effort, and it's a
fascinating fish bowl.

I expect to see new and different online communities in the future, and they
will all be compared to AW.

Hello all,
I heard about this recently so I thought I would clear things up (and this
is the first time I have posted in these newsgroups). The message below is
indeed from me and shows my thoughts on the issue. And please note that the
response was not directly just at Aine but at everyone on the AW mailgroup.
I did not just send it to her but everyone and my response was in regards to
Aine's "my thoughts letter". My posted response (the same that is listed
below) was a few days after her original letter, as I was behind in my email
(which I mentioned)

Also please note that I signed it DB --NOT-- SW Chris. I never said I
was Chris. I have been DB Digital since I came to AW over 2 years ago. And
never changed my name. Many people can vouch that we are two separate
individuals. Also note (as Chris points out later in this thread) that the
email addresses are quite different.

I hope that this clears up this misunderstanding.

-DB

P.S. Just a suggestion but I find it very useful: always read the signature
and email to know where a email is from ;)
