Is there a way to put a link on a webpage for the AW Plug-In so the person
can click on the link, download the software, which takes the person directly to my world, avoiding AWGate? Is this what SolServer is about? AW Explorer ananasOct 5, 2001, 9:24pm
As a SolServer is nothing but a UniServer with a limited
licence you should be allowed to put up your own, customized AW client that has an own INI file (with host=/port= of your SolServer) and own message files, and an own startup screen I think. The SolServer world is not connected to the AW universe and no teleport between the (one) SolServer- (or Galaxy-) world is possible. [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ kahOct 6, 2001, 7:46am
You could read the description of the SolServer, it's just a UniServer where
you can have a max of one world. AW is not a plug-in, it's a client application (just to correct the AWC). You just need to change the stuff in the start section of aworld.ini (you'd have to distribute a zip instead of the usual installer). for example, if you wanna send folks to a world called awexplor at the coords 5s 3e, you'd use this: [start] world=awexplor location=5.0S 3.0E 0.0a 0 also, I think the AWC have made a downloader thingy that does it dynamically (used on the completion page of the 3d homepage stuff). hope this helps! :-)) KAH [View Quote] q1Oct 6, 2001, 11:04am
The solserver sounds ok, for these wishing some privicy and for those of us
that require a private 25x25 small world for friends. Indeed has some interesting possiblities for groups of like minded people. As with Univservers/Galaxies proberly the VRT and connection to aw is present as otherwise nothing to stop anyone setting up 100's of them all over, If the sales take off with this new server, perhaps aw might consider reducing the galaxyserver price as at present cheaper to buy 4 solservers then one galaxyserver. Interesting! Now all we need is a client that can let us travel from Universe to Universe (or solserver to solserver) Cheers Da Wiz [View Quote] ananasOct 6, 2001, 11:23am
Note, this is based on a second-hand information :
I doubt that upgrade will be possible, strategy seems to be to let the different licences look like different products in order to avoid upgrade and force buying new. A friend tried to upgrade from a galaxy to a universe and he kept his galaxy and his money because he didn't want to buy a second server licence and an upgrade of his current one was not accepted by AW. I'm not so sure if that is really a good strategy but it's their product (and their lost money in this case) [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ cozmoOct 6, 2001, 12:54pm

Sure they will accept an upgrade - but you should contact AWC directly
because its a special arrangement. Tell the guy to email tom at activeworlds.com or give them a phone call. Regards, Justin [View Quote] ananasOct 6, 2001, 6:29pm
Thanks, I sent him the hint today - but I think his contact
was Tom (not sure though) because he already had asked me to tranlate some of the letters from/to Tom. [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ |
