At the AW Gateway

Telegram from Tigerdawn, sent Thu Aug 9, 2001 7:21 PM:
there are rules against disrupting the chat and flooding the screen

Telegram from Tigerdawn, sent Thu Aug 9, 2001 7:23 PM:
I am actually not going to debate it with you....I will let the PK's come decide
if you continue

Telegram from Tigerdawn, sent Thu Aug 9, 2001 7:24 PM:
I am not a PK and my TL Is UsuL2 if you wish to gram him

This is what I was accused of after posting an invitation to an event inside AW.
This is what it was:
Play NAME THAT TUNE Starting Now on New York World.Thursday 12am VRT CLICK
HERE>> objects.activeworlds.com/cgi-bin/teleport.cgi?_newyork_48n_11.8w_180.NYW
I posted this 2 times in a period of 2 minutes and it wasn't 1 right after the
other. So not only was I NOT flooding the chat screen, you tell me how this
advertisement was disruptive to the chat at AW Gate, LOL
I first asked them where they were, they replied as you can see, I told them
that there has never been any rules against advertising any AW event inside AW
Gate, she replied as you can see, I said to her that I will report her to her
superiors, pffttt alot of good that will do, so I am bringing it to the
communities attention to see what kind of crap people have to deal with with
these idiot, ego centered, self dictating, Gate Keepers. I told this GK to leave
me alone and to go after someone that is actually causing some kind of real
trouble, unless they have it out for me for some reason which would explain
everything.
AW.com wants people to enjoy coming here and all your GKs have on their mind is
tearing the community apart by telling us what to say and how to say it. Make up
your minds, you either want an Active Community or you don't, don't limit our
ability to bring entertainment to people no matter what world it may be on. I
will continue to post for events in ANY world I want to, so AW.com you better
tell your GK's and PK's to lighten up and stop harassing people for doing so.
It's not nice and it's not right, especially when it's on a world AW.com owns
and operates. These things should not be happening if it is a modest posting of
an event one similar to the one I posted to encourage Community Activity.

The best approach to spamming a large massive audience of unintelligent
newbies such as in the gate is to ask the GK FIRST before posting a spam. In
all of my instances of doing that, the GK him/herself will even say the
message in bold text to reach a wider audience instead of you getting in
trouble for yelling to get the word across. Sometimes, you don't even have
to ask. Personally, you all egg them on such as making spams (even if it
isn't against the rules), I think. They're just doing their job, but they're
not perfect. Work with them rather than against them, it's that simple.

They do it all the time. Maybe you got one that doesn't. =P Wait for the
next shift and then ask the GK to advertise for you.

OK Let's say you have an event at SW City and you have let's say 2 people show
up, lol Do you,
A:Stand there and look like a moron
B: Goto crowded GZ areas to get more people to attend, or
C: Tgram everyone on your list again. LOL
I think your answer would be "B" I would hope, that being the case means this
can happen to anyone in the community that does it and that is what this is all
about, and I don't want to wait til someone changes shifts to do it, she may be
there again next week at the same time too, but our attendance went from 2 to 16
just because I went to 4 GZ's and advertised the event. That's the difference
between doing it and not doing it. So I will continue to do it to let people
know there is something going on and when and where it is happening.

Yes we would probably pick B, but not flat out advertising...I kinda like to
have more of a "personal" level to it (ooo look at Mr. Advertising Exec over
here, hehe)...I've done it at AWGZ before (Bleh the last thing we need is
the people at AWGate to come to an event at SW City, hehe). But yeah,
sometimes the AW Universes "law enforcement" can be a little annoying
*cough*g.e.t.*cough*

Yes well, just another extreme to something that didn't need to be focused on,
as I said they need to concern themselves with real problems and stop harassing
citizens. It's an abuse of power.

Maybe AW wants like a toll fare for all those crossing the GZ bridge to
chuck's event, pay the gatekeeper as you cross. Oh wait, maybe I shouldn't
be giving any of those kind of ideas now. What am I thinking.

Hey, while we're on the subject, think you'd want to become a teacher
for the new Event Coordination course at AWUniv, Bit? The Hall it's in
has your name on it! ;)

Well I do understand what you are saying Bits. But things like this should still
not happen to get last minute counts up for a weekly event.

Weekly events can be quite succesful if they are constant and attractive to
the masses.
The Poets Corner for example was doing well building attendance.
Unfortunately IRL work made it hard to be consistant....but hopefully I can
get it started back up again:)

When I first wanted to post to a newsgroup, I asked for help about my
webpage settings and was told to go see a Gate Keeper. It kept asking for
password and I didn't understand I needed to enter my citizen information to
post. I didn't want to go to the Gate signed in under my citizen name
because as a tourist, you can't get bugged with telegrams while in an area
full of chatters. I do this quite often at Lara's object yard, too. When I
asked the Gate Keeper for help signing into the newsgroup, the GK asked why,
as a tourist, I wanted to know. I told the GK I was a citizen. Then the GK
wanted to know why I wasn't signed in. I became frustrated and told the GK
I was frustrated, but he or she just would not answer my question. Every
time I would ask for the instructions on how to post to the NG, the GK would
ask the same question "If you are a citizen, why aren't you logged in."
Turns out, the information on how to sign into the NG is available for
anyone in the WORLD to see on Activeworld.com's website at
http://www.activeworlds.com/community/new_newsgroups.html. Are tourists
second class AW users because they haven't all the capabilities of Citizens?
Has anyone instructed the GK's that there are times when a citizen doesn't
like to be logged in unless they are out in the boonies building or in a
closed, secured world? I'm not anti-GK, but I now have an idea what the
trust level of tourists are to a Gate Keeper.

Tourists are fine. It's the cits that go around in Tourist mode that are
worrisome, because they usually are up to no good. The GK was merely being
suspicious, and rightly so. I am not saying that because I thought you were
up to no good, just that citizen tourists in general have a reason to be in
tourist mode, and most of those reasons are not exactly ethical.

However I still don't understand why the GK wouldn't tell you how to post,
since it's obvious it's a requirement to be a registered citizen to post
here.
